Abstract

The component fitts for 1.5 mm optical fiber communication and operates with a low power simiconductor laser. It has a structure in which, when short light pulses emitted from the semiconductor laser in a gain switching or mode locking pass through the optical fiber loops, they come back in the input direction if there are control light pulses, or propagate in the opposite direction if not. To seperate control and signal lights, a linear light beam polarizer (12) is used, and a dichroic fiber coupler (8) is provided for signal beam's path change following to the phase changes. A faraday rotator (9) is used to separate input signal lights with the reflected lights by rotating the polarized bead in 90 degree.
