Abstract

The present invention relates to a smoking article comprising a slurry leaflet sheet comprising calcium carbonate.

In addition to tobacco leaves, homogenised tobacco material may be used in the manufacture of tobacco products. This homogenized tobacco material is usually made from parts of the tobacco plant that are less suitable for making cigarettes, such as tobacco stems or tobacco dust. Homogenised tobacco webs can be cut in a similar fashion to whole leaf tobacco, in the form of leaf cut filler, to make tobacco cut fillers suitable for cigarettes and other smoking articles.

According to one embodiment of the present invention, the slurry platelet sheet may further include a binder. Due to the binder, tobacco by-products and calcium carbonate can be strongly bonded, and may be preferably included in the sheet in an amount of 5 to 20% by weight. In particular, it is preferable to use methyl cellulose as the binder. The methyl cellulose is particularly mixed with calcium carbonate and tobacco by-products to form a colloid, thereby reducing smoke components such as formaldehyde.

According to another embodiment of the present invention, the smoking material unit may further include cigarette cut filler in addition to the slurry sheet leaf sheet. The smoking material part may include slurry leaf sheet and cigarette cut filler in a mixed weight ratio of 25-75: 75-25, preferably 45-55: 55-45, which is confirmed to have excellent smoke component reduction effect in the present invention range, more preferably in a weight ratio of 50:50. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the smoking substance part is characterized in that it does not contain a moisturizing agent. In the smoking article according to another embodiment of the present invention, the calcium carbonate contained in the slurry leaf sheet may be preferably 55 to 65% by weight, more preferably 60% by weight. The above content is the range confirmed to reduce the smoke component in the examples of the present invention.

The smoking articles of the present invention are characterized in that certain smoke components are reduced upon combustion. The specific smoke components include nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide (CO), formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein, 1,3-butadiene, benzene and It may be one or more selected from the group consisting of benzopyrene.

In the present invention, the smoking material portion 120 may be wrapped by a smoking material wrapper 120a. For example, it may be formed from paper or cellulose wrapping paper. However, the present disclosure is not necessarily limited thereto.

Non-perforated hand cigarettes were prepared by mixing the slurry sheet leaf prepared in the above example and common cigarette cut filler in the weight ratio shown in Table 2 (n = 3). Due to the nature of the slurry planar leaf, the swelling was lower than that of general cut filler, so the amount of filling (actual sheepwood) was slightly higher than that of general cut filler. The drawing resistance and hardness of the manufactured cigarettes were measured and shown in Table 2.

From the above results, in the hand cigarette of the example containing the slurry sheet leaf, the contents of CO, Formaldehyde, Acetaldehyde, Acrolein, 1,3-Butadiene, Benzene, and Benzopyrene were all reduced compared to Comparative Example 1 containing common cut filler. In the cigarettes of Examples 1 to 3, the amount of weight increased according to the slurry formulation, but all puffs were confirmed at 8.05 to 8.9 levels, similar to Comparative Example 1. After manufacturing cigarettes using the slurry leaflets of Preliminary Example 2 and the slurry leaflets of Preliminary Example 3, smoke components were measured and the results are shown in FIG. 4 .

As shown in FIG. 4, it was confirmed that the formaldehyde content was reduced when methylcellulose was used as a binder rather than guar gum.

<Sensory evaluation>

With respect to Comparative Example 1 and Examples 2 and 3, sensory evaluation was performed on taste intensity, smoke amount, throat swallowing, coarse taste, taste and aftertaste, and the results are shown in FIG. 5 and Table 6. Sensory evaluation was conducted on 25 evaluation panel members using cigarettes for each example 2 weeks after manufacture, based on a total score of 9 points.
