Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a highly durable metal ensemble catalyst having a completely dispersed and reduced metal state, and a method for producing the same.
In heterogeneous catalysis, supported noble metals such as platinum, palladium and rhodium have been widely used due to their high catalytic performance. However, noble metals such as platinum, palladium and rhodium are very rare and expensive. Therefore, it is very important to maximize the use efficiency of the precious metal so that there are no unused precious metal atoms. It has been actively pursued to maximize the use of noble metals by placing all metal atoms on the surface for heterogeneous reactions. By reducing the size of the metal nanoparticles to the level of a single atom, the metal dispersion can be maximized to 100%.
Recently, single-atom catalysts (hereinafter, SAC) in which all metal atoms are 100% dispersed on a support and exist independently of each other have attracted much attention. However, since there is no metal ensemble site, it does not show catalytic performance for reactions requiring an ensemble site. In addition, in general, a single atom has a high oxidation state because a strong interaction between the metal and the support is required. Since the interaction is often not sufficient, many SACs show unsatisfactory durability, especially for reduction reactions.
The metal-support or metal-adsorbent interaction must be much stronger than the metal-metal interaction in order to stabilize the independently present metal atoms. In general, SAC is caused by a support defect site (Pt 1 /FeOx), a strong metal support interaction (Rh 1 /ZrO 2 ), a metal support doping (Pt 1 /Sb-SnO 2 ), and a ligand (Pt 1 /TiN). Stabilized.
SAC has garnered a lot of attention over the decade for its maximum metal utilization efficiency and unique catalytic performance. SAC efficiently catalyzes reactions such as CO oxidation, direct methane oxidation, hydroformylation of propylene, selective hydrogenation, electrochemical electron oxygen reduction reaction and direct formic acid oxidation reaction. However, to date, SAC has the following important limitations.
First, SAC cannot catalyze other important reactions that took place at the metal ensemble site, such as hydrocarbon (C≥2) oxidation, full hydrogenation, isomerization, electrochemical four electron oxygen reduction reaction, and direct formic acid oxidation reaction. .
Second, typically fully dispersed metal catalysts are in highly oxidized states such as Pt δ+ , Pd δ+ , and Rh δ+. The stabilization process of SAC metal atoms, metal-support or-adsorbate interactions, lead to electron-deficient metal atoms. Therefore, in the reduction process, metal atoms are strongly agglomerated, resulting in lower metal dispersion. In addition, the completely dispersed metal catalyst has poor durability under high temperature reduction, which is a very typical condition for a heterogeneous catalyst. In fact, the reduction reactions reported so far with fully dispersed metal catalysts were carried out under very mild conditions. They have been mainly used for mild hydrogenation reactions, or otherwise, durability issues have not been considered.
Therefore, the present inventors have developed highly reduced and completely dispersed metal ensemble catalysts (hereinafter, ESC). The catalyst of the present invention has been used in exhaust purification, that is, a three-way catalytic (TWC) reaction, which has excellent catalytic activity at low temperatures. In addition, ESC exhibits excellent durability under severe conditions such as hydrothermal aging, long-term reactions and repetitive reactions.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a highly durable metal ensemble catalyst having a completely dispersed and reduced metal state.

The present inventors have developed a highly durable metal (Pt, Pd, Rh) ensemble catalyst that enables the oxidation of hydrocarbons requiring a metal ensemble site. In addition, the ensemble catalyst has a reduced metallic state that enables NO reduction. Since such an ensemble catalyst has high durability, the catalyst structure is maintained even after hydrothermal treatment at 900° C. for 24 hours or after a long-term reaction.
More specifically, after fixing the nano-ceria to the Al 3+ penta portion of the reduced alumina, Pt, Pd, or Rh was deposited and reduced. These catalysts exhibited 100% metal dispersion and a highly reduced metal state, and exhibited excellent activity and durability against a three-way catalytic (TWC) reaction. These catalysts can provide new insights beyond single atom catalysts in heterogeneous catalysts.

Commercial γ-alumina (99.97%, Alfa Aesar) was reduced in advance by flowing 10% H 2 /N 2 at 350° C. for 1 hour to generate a tunable unsaturated Al 3+ penta moiety. The reduction temperature of 350° C. was determined from temperature programmed reduction with hydrogen (H 2 -TPR), as shown in FIG. 6.
The metal catalyst was prepared by the sequential impregnation method as follows. Ceria was first impregnated with reduced γ-alumina (rAl 2 O 3 ), and then noble metals (M = Pt, Pd and Rh) were impregnated with CeO 2 -rAl 2 O 3. The amounts of noble metal and ceria were 1 and 10% by weight, respectively. Ce(NO 3 ) 3 ·6H 2 O (99.99%, Kanto chemical) was homogeneously dissolved in 5 mL deionized water while stirring at 700 rpm in a 50 mL 3-neck round bottom flask. After introducing the previously reduced γ-alumina into the cerium precursor solution, the solution was continuously stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The solution was then heated to the target metal impregnation temperature (40, 60, 80 or 90 °C).
The impregnation temperature is a key factor in accurately controlling the metal structure. When the impregnation temperature is high, evaporation is accelerated to separate the metal structure, and when the impregnation temperature is low, the evaporation is slow to form a metal ensemble structure.
In the case of a platinum catalyst, H 2 PtCl 6 ·6H 2 O (≤ 100%, Sigma-Aldrich) was homogeneously dissolved in 5 mL of deionized water until a transparent solution, and then CeO 2 − Put in rAl 2 O 3 solution. Stirring was continued at 700 rpm at the target impregnation temperature until the synthetic solution was completely evaporated. After sequential impregnation, the resulting powder was dried overnight at 80° C. in a convection oven, and then the dried powder was calcined in static air at 500° C. with a ramping rate of 5° C./min. Finally, the calcined powder was reduced at 500° C. in 10% H 2 /N 2 for 2 hours at a ramping rate of 10° C./min to produce a Pt/CeO 2 -rAl 2 O 3 catalyst. In the case of a palladium or rhodium catalyst, a H 2 PdCl 4 or H 2 RhCl 5 solution was prepared before impregnation. HCl for PdCl 2 (99%, Sigma- Aldrich) or RhCl 3 · xH 2 O (99.98 %, Sigma-Aldrich) for 2 were mixed in deionized water of 5mL of 1 molar ratio, by shaking the solution until a transparent homogeneous gave. Other procedures were performed in the same manner as for Pt/CeO 2 -rAl 2 O 3 synthesis to produce Pd/CeO 2 -rAl 2 O 3 and Rh/CeO 2 -rAl 2 O 3 catalysts.

To investigate the metal structure in M/CeO 2 -rAl 2 O 3 , CO adsorption on the catalyst was performed by diffuse reflection Fourier-modified infrared spectroscopy (DRIFT) using Nicolet iS-50 (Thermo Scientific). Specifically, the catalyst was mixed with KBr powder in a weight ratio of 1:7 and finely pulverized. The mixed powder was placed in a sample cup and placed in a DRIFT cell. The cell was purged with a stream of Ar at 100° C. for 1 hour to remove water and impurities and cooled to room temperature under a stream of Ar flow. A
X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) of the Pt L3, Pd K and Rh K edges was performed using 8C nano XAFS and 10C wide XAFS beamlines of a Pohang light source (PLS). Pt L3, Pd K and Rh K edge spectra were obtained in fluorescence mode using a passivated implanted planar silicon (PIPS) detector (Canberra). Reference Pt, Pd and Rh foils were also measured simultaneously to calibrate each sample. XAS data were processed and fitted using the ATHENA and ARTEMIS software programs. The coordination number was derived by fixing the SO2 value obtained by fitting the reference metal foil. The Debye-Waller factor (σ2) is fixed to an appropriate value when the number of independent points is limited.
50℃로 냉각한 후, 샘플을 다음 순서로 가스 흐름에 노출시켰다: (i) He (5분); (ii) 3.5% O2/He (5분); (iii) CO2 (10분); (iv) He (20분); (v) 5% H2/Ar (5분). The dispersion of noble metals in the catalyst was determined by a pulsed CO chemisorption technique modified by the method of Takeguchi et al. First, 50 mg of the catalyst was heated in 3.5% O 2 /He gas at 300°C for 10 minutes, and then the sample was purged with He gas for 5 minutes and cooled to 50°C. The sample was then heated to 200° C. in a 5% H 2 /Ar flow. After cooling to 50° C., the samples were exposed to a gas stream in the following sequence: (i) He (5 min); (ii) 3.5% O 2 /He (5 min); (iii) CO 2 (10 min); (iv) He (20 min); (v) 5% H 2 /Ar (5 min). CO 2 was previously injected to form carbonates on the ceria surface. Otherwise, the metal dispersion could be overestimated because it forms carbonates and CO can adsorb to the ceria surface. Finally, the CO was pulsed in a stream of He every minute until the CO chemisorption on the catalyst was saturated. A representative H 2 chemisorption method was also performed to measure the dispersion of noble metals. First, 50 mg of the catalyst was heated in 5% H 2 /Ar at 500° C. for 1 hour and then cooled to 30° C. Then, the catalyst was evacuated in an Ar flow at 400° C. for 4 hours and then cooled to 30° C. Finally, H 2 was pulsed in a stream of Ar every minute until the H 2 chemisorption on the catalyst was saturated.

The electronic properties of platinum, palladium, rhodium and cerium were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, K-Alpha, Thermo VG Scientific). The binding energy was calculated based on the maximum intensity of the C1 signal, which is advantageous at 284.8 eV.
Inductively coupled plasma light emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) analysis was performed on an Agilent ICP-OES 5110 instrument to determine the actual amounts of precious metals and ceria in the catalyst. The crystal structure of the catalyst was observed by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern (Rigaku, Cu Kα radiation). The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of the catalyst was measured using Tristar II 3020 (Micromeritics). Solid state 27Al magic magic spinning (MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements were performed at room temperature on an Agilent 400MHz 54mm NMR DD2 operating in a 9.4 T magnetic field. In γ-alumina, rAl 2 O 3 , CeO 2 -rAl 2 O 3 and various M/CeO 2 -rAl 2 O 3 catalysts, Al 3+ sites (tetrahedral, pentahedral and octahedral coordination Al 3+ ) were identified. H 2 -TPR was performed on a BELCAT-B (BEL, Japan) equipped with mass spectrometry (MS) and thermal conductivity detector (TCD). Before the H 2 -TPR measurement, the catalyst was pretreated by flowing 50 sccm of Ar at 250° C. for 2 hours, and cooled to room temperature. Then, a flow of 5% H 2 /Ar gas was introduced and heated to 800° C. with a ramp rate of 10° C./min.

Density function theory (DFT) calculations were performed using VASP (Vienna Ab initio Software Package) to estimate the oscillation frequency and confirm the peak assignment of adsorbed CO in the DRIFT experiment. The ion-electron interaction was processed using the projector-amplified wave (PAW) method, and the PBE (Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof) exchange correlation function was used for all calculations. The Hubbard U correction was used to accurately describe the Ce 4f state of the Ce 3f state, and an effective U parameter of 5 eV was selected from the results of the previous paper. A plane wave with a cutoff energy of 408 eV was used for all calculations, and a force threshold of 0.02 eV/Å was used for shape optimization. A 5 X 5 X 1 Monkhorst-Pack kpoint grid was used for all calculations using the slab model.
First, the bulk ceria unit cell was fully optimized and the relaxed cell was split into the most dominant (111) plane on the ceria surface. A 15 Å vacuum layer was added to the (111) surface of the ceria to create the slab making up the model system. The slab structure composed of three O-Ce-O layers was relaxed. The atoms in the lowest O-Ce-O layer were fixed, and the positions of all other atoms were optimized. A single metal atom or metal ensemble in the shape of a tetrahedron consisting of one or four metal atoms (Pt, Pd and Rh) was deposited on the (111) surface of the ceria, and the metal/ceria system was completely relaxed. The positions of the metal atoms and ensembles in the previous paper were used as the initial positions of the metal atoms in this system, and then carbon monoxide was added to the system and completely relaxed. The oscillation frequencies of single atoms and CO molecules adsorbed on the ensemble were obtained in a fully relaxed CO/metal/seria system.
