Abstract
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a computing device and a control method thereof connected to a printer via a network, and more particularly, to a computing device and a control method thereof for transmitting print data to a network-connected printer.
A plurality of computers can share one printer or a plurality of printers via a network such as a LAN (Local Area Network). Each printer is assigned an IP address. The computer connects the communication to the IP address assigned to the printer and transmits printing data to the printer. The printer forms an image based on the printing data and performs printing.
On the other hand, if the IP address assigned to the printer is changed, a printing error occurs because a communication connection can not be made to the IP address before the change. In this case, there is a problem that the user must go through a troublesome procedure of finding the changed IP address of the printer and then adding the printer port to the changed IP address or directly changing the port information of the printer with the changed IP address.
According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a computing device capable of searching for a changed IP address and transmitting print data to a retrieved IP address when the IP address of the printer is changed, and a control method thereof.
According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a computing device capable of searching for a changed IP address and resetting a retrieved IP address to port information of a printer when the IP address of the printer is changed, and a control method thereof.
According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a computing device capable of performing printing using another printer in the same network when an IP address of the printer is changed, and a control method thereof.
A control method of a computing device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes the steps of: receiving, in a user interface, a first command for selecting printing to a first printer; and, when the first command is received, The method comprising the steps of: generating print data; attempting a communication connection to a first IP address of the first printer; and, when a communication connection to the first IP address fails, .
The method of controlling a computing device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes resetting the searched second IP address to port information of the first printer, attempting to establish a communication connection with the reset second IP address, Transmitting the print data to the first printer when the communication connection to the second IP address is successful, and terminating the communication connection to the second IP address.
The method of controlling a computing device according to one embodiment of the present invention includes the steps of: attempting to establish a communication connection to the searched second IP address; and when the communication connection to the second IP address is successful, And terminating a communication connection to the second IP address.
The method of controlling a computing device according to the embodiment may further include the steps of: receiving, in the user interface, a second command for resetting the second IP address to port information of the first printer; , Resetting the second IP address to port information of the first printer.
Wherein retrieving the second IP address of the first printer comprises receiving network information from at least one printer connected to the same network as the computing device, And may include a MAC address and an IP address.
The step of searching for the second IP address of the first printer may further include the step of matching the MAC address of the first printer stored in the storage unit with the MAC address of the received network information, And receiving a third command for selecting printing to the second printer.
The method of controlling a computing device according to one embodiment of the present invention includes: attempting to establish a communication connection to an IP address of the second printer when the third command is received; The method may further include transmitting the print data to the second printer and terminating a communication connection to the IP address of the second printer.
The step of searching for the second IP address of the first printer may use a UDP (User Datagram Protocol) transmission method.
The method of controlling a computing device according to the embodiment may further include multicasting the retrieved second IP address to at least one other computing device connected to the same network as the computing device.
A computing device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a user interface for receiving a command, a data generator for generating printing data in accordance with the received command, a network interface for communicating with the at least one printer, A storage unit for storing network information of each of the at least one printer, a first IP address of a first printer previously stored in the storage unit, and a communication link to the detached first IP address, Retrieves the second IP address of the first printer, resets the port information of the first printer to the retrieved second IP address, and transmits the print data to the first printer through the network interface And a control unit for controlling the control unit.
The network information may include a MAC address and an IP address for each of the at least one printer.
According to the computing device and the control method thereof according to the present invention, when the IP address of the printer is changed, the user directly obtains the changed IP address and searches for the changed IP address without changing the port information and transmits the print data to the retrieved IP address Or by resetting the port information of the printer, the convenience of the user can be maximized.
In addition, according to the computing device and the control method thereof according to the present invention, when the IP address of the printer is changed, the convenience of the user can be maximized by performing a printing operation using another printer in the same network.
In addition, according to the computing device and the control method thereof according to the present invention, when the IP address of the printer is changed, the changed IP address is rediscovered in another computing device by multicasting the changed IP address to another computing device in the same network You can avoid troublesome procedures.
