Abstract
Description
TECHNICAL FIELD This invention relates to the method of manufacturing the polarizing plate useful as one of the optical components which comprise a liquid crystal display device.
In recent years, the power consumption is small, operates at a low voltage, and a lightweight and thin liquid crystal display device is rapidly spreading as information display devices, such as a mobile telephone, a portable information terminal, a monitor for a computer, and a television.
The polarizing plate used as one of the optical components constituting the liquid crystal display device has a structure in which a transparent resin film is bonded to at least one side of a polarizing film containing a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin in which a dichroic dye is adsorbed and orientated, usually on both sides. It adhere | attaches to a liquid crystal cell through an adhesive layer, and is used as a liquid crystal panel. Although the transparent resin film bonded to one side of a polarizing film has a function as what is called a protective film which protects the polarizing film containing polyvinyl alcohol-type resin, when the transparent resin film is bonded to both surfaces of a polarizing film, the other The transparent resin film in many cases has a function as a so-called optical compensation film for the purpose of optical compensation of a liquid crystal cell and improvement of the viewing angle of a liquid crystal display device besides the function as a simple protective film.
Conventionally, an aqueous solution containing polyvinyl alcohol resin as a main component has been used as an adhesive for bonding the polarizing film and the transparent resin film. However, such an aqueous adhesive has a limit to the resin film to which it can be applied, and for drying and curing. Requires corresponding time. In addition, in recent years, it is required to bond various kinds of transparent resin films to polarizing films as protective films and as optical compensation films. Therefore, the proposal using the ultraviolet curable adhesive is performed in the point which can be applied to various transparent resin films, has a short hardening time, and does not disperse | distribute a harmful substance to air | atmosphere. For example, JP2004-245925-A superimposes a transparent resin film (called "protective film" in the literature) on a polarizing film by using an adhesive comprising a composition mainly composed of an epoxy compound containing no aromatic ring. And the technique which irradiates an active energy ray which has an ultraviolet-ray as a representative example, hardens an adhesive agent, and makes it a polarizing plate is disclosed.
However, in the polarizing plate manufactured by irradiating ultraviolet-ray to ultraviolet-ray-curable adhesive agent in this way, the micro-strain called "heat nonuniformity" generate | occur | produces on the transparent resin film surface to which ultraviolet-ray is irradiated by the heat which generate | occur | produces from an ultraviolet irradiation device. There is a problem that the appearance of the polarizing plate is impaired. Such thermal nonuniformity is, for example, when the light of fluorescent lamp is reflected on the surface of the polarizing plate, and if the polarizing plate does not have thermal nonuniformity, the image of the fluorescent lamp is reflected as it is. Observed as If the polarizing plate which the thermal nonuniformity generate | occur | produced is applied to a liquid crystal display device, the same white spot will generate | occur | produce in the image displayed. Therefore, manufacture of the polarizing plate which does not produce a thermal nonuniformity is desired.
JP2009-134190-A continuously conveys a polarizing film and a transparent resin film in a long form, respectively, and after bonding a transparent resin film to the polarizing film through an adhesive agent, the obtained laminated body was formed in circular arc shape along the conveyance direction. A method of producing a polarizing plate by polymerizing and curing an adhesive while contacting a convex curved surface, typically a roll, is disclosed. Moreover, as a typical example of an adhesive agent, an ultraviolet curable adhesive agent is mentioned, Paragraph 0021 describes that the said roll is made to act as a cooling roll whose surface temperature was set to 20-25 degreeC. Thus, when employ | adopting the method of irradiating an ultraviolet-ray while sticking to a cooling roll, it is expected that the said heat nonuniformity which is easy to generate | occur | produce in the polarizing plate using an ultraviolet curable adhesive is also suppressed. However, even if it employ | adopts the method of making it adhere to a cooling roll, heat unevenness may still generate | occur | produce depending on the irradiation intensity of an ultraviolet-ray or the conveyance speed of a polarizing plate.
Therefore, the subject of this invention is a method of manufacturing a polarizing plate by bonding a transparent resin film to a polarizing film through an ultraviolet curable adhesive, irradiating an ultraviolet-ray to it, and hardening an ultraviolet curable adhesive, and a heat nonuniformity hardly arises in a polarizing plate. FIG. 2 is a graph showing a light emission spectrum (curve A) of a metal halide lamp used as an ultraviolet light source, and a transmittance spectrum (curve B) of a wavelength filter used for cut of light having a wavelength of 400 nm or more in the examples described later.
With reference to FIG. 1, in this invention, the
The bonding

The method of forming a polyvinyl alcohol-type resin into a film is not specifically limited, It can form into a film by a well-known method. The raw material film containing polyvinyl alcohol-type resin can be made into the film thickness of about 10-150 micrometers, for example.
The polarizing film is usually a step of stretching a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film, a step of dyeing the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film with a dichroic dye to adsorb the dichroic dye, and a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film to which the dichroic dye is adsorbed. It manufactures through the process of processing with aqueous boric acid solution, and the process of washing with water after the process by this boric acid aqueous solution.

In particular, it is effective from the viewpoint of reducing the influence of heat generated by the irradiation of ultraviolet rays to make the contact body 23 a gold roll and to give it a temperature control function to act as a cooling roll. The temperature control function can be provided by providing a fluid passage in the inside of the metal roll and adding a fluid for cooling, for example, water to flow therein. In that case, it is preferable to make the surface temperature of a cooling roll about 20-25 degreeC. In the case where the
The 2nd
At this time, the
Although the material of the
Although the light source used for the
Irradiation time of the ultraviolet-ray to the
The line speed of the
The
Other explanations]
In the present invention, as described above, the

Subsequently, the adhesive coating surfaces of the first
Ultraviolet irradiation device 16 (referring to the side opposite to the
The emission spectrum from the
When the output of the

In Example 1, a "die foil", which is a biaxially stretched polyethylene terephthalate film having a thickness of 38 µm and a width of 1,330 mm, obtained from Mitsubishi Shizu Corporation instead of "Zenoa Film", which is an amorphous polyolefin resin film, was used.
