미국의 조각가 '알렉산더 콜더'의 작품 중에 모빌(mobile:움직이는 조각)은 정적인 조각작품에서 동적인 움직임(바람/물/모터)의 작품으로 유명하다. 어린애들 방 천정에 한 개쯤 매달려 있는 유아용품들이 바로 이 모빌에서 발생 되었다. 종래의 종이 인형들을 보면, 문방구에서 판매하는 종이인형 / 공방에서 수제로 만드는 닥지와 한지를 이용한 종이 인형 / 지점토를 이용한 종이 인형 등이 있다. 이 모두가 액자용 장식용으로만 사용하고 있다. '움직이는 종이인형'은 인쇄물의 종이에 불가이지만, 여기에 그림과 사진을 붙이고 추(錘)을 이용하여 움직이는 종이 인형으로 만들어 하나의 '캐릭터'가 만들어져 생명력을 가지게 된다.Among the works of American sculptor Alexander Calder, mobile is known for its dynamic movements (wind / water / motor) in static sculptures.
