When a voltage is applied to the pixel electrode and the common electrode, an electric field is formed to change the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules positioned therebetween.
The backlight unit 150 includes a plurality of lamps 151 for generating light and a light guide plate 152 for guiding light from the lamps 151 to the display unit 130. The lamp 151 illustrated in FIG. 1 is a direct type in which the lamp 151 is disposed under the display unit 130 and the light guide plate 150. The light guide plate 150 is positioned under the display unit 130 and has a size corresponding to the display unit 130. As shown in FIG. 1, the light guide plate 150 may have a uniform thickness, and the thickness may increase or decrease gradually.
An optical film unit 140 is disposed on the upper part of the light guide plate 150 to uniform the luminance of the light directed toward the display unit 130, and the light reflected from the light guide plate 150 is again disposed below the backlight unit 130. The reflective plate 160 is disposed to reflect toward 150 to improve light efficiency.
The optical film unit 140 is composed of a plurality of optical films. That is, the optical film unit 140 diffuses the light generated from the backlight unit 150 to diffuse the film (diffusion film) 141 to uniform the luminance distribution, the P wave of the light source is transmitted and the S wave is recycled (recycled) A brightness enhancement film 142 for improving brightness and a prism film 143 for collecting light having a uniform brightness distribution.
The brightness enhancement film 142 is formed on the diffusion film 141, and the prism film 143 is formed on the brightness enhancement film 142.
The diffusion film 141 and the brightness enhancement film 142 are attached by the first ultraviolet crosslinking agent 146, and the brightness enhancement film 142 and the prism film 143 are attached by the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147. Thus, the optical film portion 140 is integrally formed.
As such, the diffusion film 141, the brightness enhancement film 142, and the prism film 143 are integrally formed so that the diffusion film 141, the brightness enhancement film 142, and the degree of expansion due to temperature and humidity are different from each other. It is possible to prevent the generation of space between the prism films 143.
2 and 3 show a perspective view of the brightness enhancement film and the chemical formula of the organic particles, respectively.
As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the brightness enhancement film 142 is a polymer film containing the elongated core shell structure of the organic particles 79, the organic shell 79 of the core shell structure (core shell) It consists of methacrylate butadiene styrene (MBS).
In the core shell structure, the core portion is a butadiene and styrene cross-linked portion, and the shell portion is polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) around the core portion. Is the surrounding part.
That is, butadiene and styrene are connected to each other in a mesh structure, and polymethylmethacrylate surrounds the butadiene and styrene of the mesh structure.
In FIG. 3, Sty is styrene, BuD is butadiene, and acrylate means methacrylate and methyl methacrylate.
Since the luminance-enhancing film 142 is thermally stretched in one direction, a difference in refractive index occurs between the stretched direction and the unstretched direction of the organic particles 79 of the core shell structure, thereby implementing reflective polarization characteristics. That is, P waves pass through and S waves reflect by the organic particles 79 having the elongated core shell structure, thereby implementing reflective polarization characteristics.
The length of the heat-stretched brightness enhancement film 142 is preferably 1.1 to 8 times larger than the length before heat stretching.
As shown in FIG. 1, the light generated by the backlight unit 150 includes P waves and S waves, and P waves pass and S waves are reflected by the brightness enhancement film 142 having reflective polarization characteristics. It is supplied to the display unit.
Accordingly, the luminance-enhancing film 142 transmits P waves and reflects S waves with respect to light having a wavelength of 250 to 800 nm. In addition, the S-waves reflected by the luminance-enhancing film 142 are reflected back by the reflecting plate 160 to become P 'waves and S' waves, the double P 'waves are transmitted, and the S' waves are reflected by the luminance-enhancing film 142. And is reflected back by the reflecting plate 160. By repeating such a process, the amount of P waves passing through the brightness enhancement film 142, which is a polymer film containing the stretched core shell structure of the organic particles 79, is increased to increase the brightness.
Conventional brightness enhancement film 142 has a thick thickness of 140 to 440μm because more than a hundred layers of films are stacked, the manufacturing process is complicated, but the brightness enhancement film 142 as one embodiment of the present invention is a single layer or Since only a few layers have reflective polarization characteristics, the thickness of the brightness enhancement film 142 becomes thin, and the manufacturing process is simplified.
A method of manufacturing the brightness enhancement film 142 for a liquid crystal display device according to the present invention configured as described above will be described with reference to FIGS. 4 to 5.
As shown in FIG. 4, the powdery polymer resin 33 and the organic particles 79 of the powdery core shell structure are subjected to a temperature from the glass transition temperature (Tg) to the glass transition temperature + 180 degrees. Perform casting molding at
The casting molding process melts and disperses the powdery polymer resin 33 and the powdery organic particles 79 in a high temperature container 33 to melt-disperse the organic particles 79 of the core shell structure in the liquidated polymer resin. dispersion), and a process of manufacturing the polymer film 142 using the cooling roll 66 of 100 to 140 degrees.
In this case, as shown in FIG. 5, the core shell-shaped organic particles 79 composed of methacrylate-butadiene-styrene are distributed in the polymer film 142.
The polymer resin 33 is polycarbonate, polyethylene terephthalate, polyimide, polysulfone, polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl alcohol, polynorbornene, It is preferable that it is either selected from a copolymer or a derivative film.
The molten polymer resin 33 is preferably 100% by weight, and the organic particles 79 are preferably 1% by weight to 30% by weight.
Next, as shown in FIG. 6, the luminance-enhancing film 142 is thermally stretched in one direction, that is, in the X direction, to increase polarization by increasing the size of the X direction of the organic particles 79 in the polymer film. . That is, due to the difference in refractive index between the stretched direction and the non-stretched direction of the core shell-shaped organic particles 79, the brightness enhancement film realizes the reflective polarization characteristic.
A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device including the brightness enhancement film 142 for a liquid crystal display device of the present invention configured as described above will be described with reference to FIGS. 7 to 9.
First, as shown in FIG. 7, the first ultraviolet crosslinking agent 146 in the form of a solution is dropped on the diffusion film 141.
Next, as shown in FIGS. 8A and 8B, the first ultraviolet crosslinking agent 146 is uniformly coated on the diffusion film 141.
That is, as shown in FIG. 8A, the diffusion film 141 is rotated by spin coating to uniformly apply the first ultraviolet crosslinking agent 146 to the diffusion film 141 to a predetermined thickness, or FIG. 8B. As shown in FIG. 1, the diffusion film 141 is rotated by a blading method to uniformly apply the first ultraviolet crosslinking agent 146 to the diffusion film 141 to a predetermined thickness using the roller 55.
Next, as shown in FIGS. 9A and 9B, the brightness enhancement film 142 is positioned on the first ultraviolet crosslinking agent 146. The brightness enhancement film 142 is a polymer film containing the core-shell-shaped organic particles 79, and there is a difference in refractive index between the direction stretched and unstretched in a predetermined direction.
The polymer film containing such elongated core shell-shaped organic particles 79 has reflective polarization characteristics. That is, the P-wave passes and the S-waves are reflected by the core shell-shaped organic particles 79 having optical anisotropy, thereby implementing reflective polarization characteristics.
Therefore, the brightness enhancement film 142 transmits P waves and reflects S waves. By repeating such a process, the amount of P waves passing through the brightness enhancement film 142 is increased, thereby increasing the brightness.
Then, the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147 in the form of a solution is added dropwise onto the brightness enhancement film 142. Then, the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147 is uniformly coated on the diffusion film 141.
That is, as shown in FIG. 9A, the diffusion film 141 is rotated by spin coating to uniformly apply the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147 to the diffusion film 141 to a predetermined thickness, or FIG. 9B. As shown in FIG. 2, the diffusion film 141 is rotated by a blading method to uniformly apply the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147 to the diffusion film 141 to a predetermined thickness using the roller 55.
Next, as shown in FIG. 10, the prism film 143 is positioned on the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147. The first and second ultraviolet crosslinkers 146 and 147 are irradiated with ultraviolet rays (Ultra Violet, UV) to attach the diffusion film 141 and the brightness enhancing film 142 to each other with the first ultraviolet crosslinker 146. The brightness enhancing film 142 and the prism film 143 are attached to each other with the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147.
As described above, the diffusion film 141, the brightness enhancement film 142, and the prism film 143 of the optical film unit 140 of the liquid crystal display device are integrally formed to form the diffusion film 141, the brightness enhancement film 142, and the like. It is possible to prevent the generation of space between the prism films 143.
In the above, the first and second ultraviolet crosslinkers 146 and 147 are irradiated with ultraviolet rays at the same time so that the diffusion film 141 and the brightness enhancement film 142 and the brightness enhancement film 142 and the prism film 143 are simultaneously attached. After irradiating ultraviolet rays to the first ultraviolet crosslinking agent 146 to attach the diffusion film 141 and the brightness enhancement film 142 to each other, the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147 is applied and the prism film 143 is applied thereon. After positioning, the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147 may be irradiated with ultraviolet rays to attach the brightness enhancing film 142 and the prism film 143 to each other.
On the other hand, in the above, the step of dropping the first ultraviolet crosslinking agent 146, the step of uniformly applying the first ultraviolet crosslinking agent 146 in order to manufacture the optical film portion 140 integrally, on the first ultraviolet crosslinking agent 146 Positioning the brightness enhancing film 142, dropping the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147 on the brightness enhancing film 142, applying the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147 uniformly, and the second ultraviolet crosslinking agent 147 While placing the prism film 143 thereon and irradiating the ultraviolet rays to the first and second ultraviolet crosslinkers 146 and 147 in separate facilities, the manufacturing process was performed in various parts on the long roll. It is also possible to manufacture an integrated optical film part by a continuous process of a roll to roll (Roll to Roll) method to proceed at the same time.
