슬러지는 비교적 깨끗한 상수원에서도 발생하고 오폐수경우는 대량으로 발생하는데 현재 처리하고 있는 종래의 공법을 보면 프레스(압착기)로서 압착하여 슬러지에 함유된 수분을 제거하는 것이 대부분으로서 그 효능이 낮아 최대 효능치도 함수율이 75%이상이나 되어 처리비 즉 운반비 및 매립비등이 과다하게 소요되고 또 매립장에 침출수가 발생하는등 2차공해 및 별도의 침출수 처리비까지 소요되는 것이 종래공법의 큰 문제점이지만 본 고안은 진공과 일부간접열을 이용하여 함수율을 3%이하로 할 수 있기 때문에 슬러지의 량을 1/4로 줄일수 있어 운반비 및 매립비도 비례하여 절약되고 매립장에서 침출수의 발생도 없어 경제성에서 탁월하다Sludge is generated from relatively clean water sources and waste water is generated in large quantities.
