In general, a touch panel may be divided into an add-on type, an on-cell type, and an in-cell type according to a structure. The top plate attachment type is a method of attaching the touch panel to the top plate of the display device after separately manufacturing the display device and the touch panel. The integrated top plate is a method of directly forming elements constituting the touch panel on the surface of the upper glass substrate of the display device. The panel built-in type is a method in which elements constituting the touch panel are directly formed inside the display device.
Among them, in the display device with a top plate attachment, a touch panel coated with an adhesive layer is attached to an upper portion of a display panel to which a polarizing plate is attached, thereby integrating the display panel and the touch panel. Hereinafter, a touch film prepared in the form of a film will be described as an example. The top-mounted display device has the advantage of being thin compared to the conventional display panel and not having a touch film attached thereto, but there is a problem in that the display device is damaged during a fall or an external impact.
Referring to FIG. 3 , the present inventors performed drop tests (a) to (h) in which the display device is dropped to form various angles with the ground in order to determine the cause of damage to the display device. Although not all shown in the drawings, drop tests are performed with more angles and shapes. As a result of the drop test, as shown in FIG. 4 , both lower corners of the display device were damaged. Due to this breakage, a liquid crystal leakage phenomenon occurred in which liquid crystal leaked out of the display panel. Through the drop test, the present inventors found that the load distribution of the display device was non-uniform, and found that the damaged portion was the portion to which the load was intensively applied.
Referring to FIG. 5 , the damaged portion of the
On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 6 , in the
However, referring to FIG. 5 , when the
To solve this problem, referring to FIG. 7 , between the
Accordingly, the present inventors provided a complementary member between the display panel and the cover substrate to prevent the pad portion of the TFT array substrate of the display panel from being damaged when the display device is dropped.
Hereinafter, a display device according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 8 to 11 .
8 is a perspective view illustrating a display device according to an embodiment of the present invention. 9 is a plan view illustrating a display device according to an embodiment of the present invention. 10 is a cross-sectional view taken along line I-I' of FIG. 9 . 11 is a plan view illustrating a display device according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to FIG. 8 , the
The display panel DP is mounted on the panel support of the guide panel GP to control transmittance of light supplied from the backlight unit EBLU to realize an image. The display panel DP includes a
In the display panel DP having the above structure, when the thin film transistor selected for each scan line is turned on by the on/off signal of the gate driving circuit transmitted from the scan line, the data voltage of the data driving circuit is transmitted through the data line. It is transmitted to the corresponding pixel electrode, and accordingly, the arrangement direction of the liquid crystal molecules is changed by the electric field between the pixel electrode and the common electrode to indicate a difference in transmittance.
The guide panel GP wraps the edges of the light guide plate LG, the optical film OPT, and the reflection plate REF, and the light guide plate LG, the optical film OPT and the reflection plate REF are attached to the bottom cover BC. It serves to fix and support the display panel DP. Here, the role of the guide panel GP may be replaced or omitted by a structure added to the top cover TC and the bottom cover BC.
Meanwhile, the
The light source LS is mounted on the light source circuit board, is driven by a power source, and generates light. The light source LS may be formed of any one of a light emitting diode (LED), a cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL), and an external electrode fluorescent lamp (EEFL). Light emitted from the light source LS is incident into the light guide plate GP, and is supplied to the display panel DP by the light guide plate GP, the optical film OPT, and the reflection plate REF. The light source LS is formed to face at least one surface of the light guide plate LG.
The optical film OPT condenses or diffuses light emitted through the light guide plate LG to be transmitted to the display panel DP. To this end, the optical film OPT is configured to include at least one diffusion sheet or a light collecting sheet. The diffusion sheet serves to prevent the light emitted through the light guide plate LG from being concentrated in a partial area and to disperse the light so that it is transmitted to the display panel DP in an even distribution. The light collecting sheet collects light emitted from the light guide plate LG and vertically transmits the light to the display panel DP.
The reflecting plate REF is disposed on the lower or side surface of the light guide plate LG, and reflects the light emitted from the exit surface or the lower side of the light guide plate LG into the inside of the light guide plate LG. The reflective plate REF may have a different formation position depending on the arrangement of the light source LS. For example, in the case of a direct backlight unit, it may be disposed below the light guide plate LG, that is, on a surface facing the display panel DP with the light guide plate LG interposed therebetween. In addition, the edge type backlight unit may be configured on the side surface of the light guide plate LG or may be omitted if necessary, and it is not limited only to the above description and may be modified by various factors such as the arrangement of the light source LS.
The light guide plate LG spreads the light incident from the light source LS to a wide area of the light guide plate LG as it travels within the light guide plate LG by total reflection several times and provides a primary surface light source to the display panel DP. can do. The light guide plate LG may include a pattern having a specific shape on the rear surface to supply a uniform surface light source.
Meanwhile, the
The
In more detail, a plan view of a display device according to an embodiment of the present invention and a cross-sectional view thereof will be described.
Referring to FIG. 9 , the
The upper
접착층(230)은 OCA(optical clear adhesive) 또는 OCR(optical clear resin) 등의 투명한 접착수지로 이루어져, 표시 패널(DP)로부터 방출되는 빛을 투과시킨다. The
A backlight unit EBLU including a reflection plate REF, a light guide plate LG, and an optical film OPT is disposed under the display panel DP, and a guide panel GP is disposed on a side surface of the backlight unit EBLU. do. A description thereof will be omitted since it has been described above.
Meanwhile, in the present invention, in order to prevent the pad portion of the TFT array substrate of the display panel from being damaged when the display device is dropped, a complementary member is provided between the display panel and the cover substrate.
In more detail, the
The
제1 보완부(292)는 도전성 테이프(conductive tape)로 유연한 플라스틱 필름에 ITO(indium tin oxide), IZO(indium zinc oxide) 또는 ITZO(indium tin zinc oxide)와 같은 투명도전성 산화물이 적층되어 구성된다. The first
The second
Meanwhile, one end of the second
In the display device of the present invention, when the
Meanwhile, referring to FIG. 11 , the
As described above, the present invention is to prevent the portion adjacent to the pad of the

Here, the display device according to the comparative example is the display device shown in FIG. 5 , and there is no air gap because an adhesive layer is positioned between the display panel and the touch film, and the seam tape is present from the polarizing plate to the side surface of the color filter array substrate. The display device according to the embodiment has a structure in which an adhesive layer is positioned between the display panel and the touch film shown in FIG. 10 , so that there is no air gap, and the seam tape, which is a second complementary member, exists up to the side surface of the TFT array substrate.
Referring to FIG. 12 , the display device according to the comparative example was subjected to a total of 10 drop tests performed to form various angles and shapes on the ground. In the
From this result, it was confirmed that, according to an embodiment of the present invention, damage to the TFT array substrate can be prevented when the display device is dropped by extending the seam tape located between the display panel and the touch film to the side of the TFT array substrate. did
As described above, in the display device according to the present invention, in the structure in which the display panel and the touch film are bonded by an adhesive layer, the second complementing part is extended to the side surface of the TFT array substrate, thereby supplementing the side step difference between the display panel and the touch film. There is an advantage in that the TFT array substrate can be prevented from being damaged when the display device is dropped.
