Abstract

Curtain airbag module is proposed that can protect the head part of all passengers by simple improvement of the structure without changing the cushion shape. The curtain airbag module is composed of a variable tab whose length can be changed by some of the plurality of tabs connected to the cushion to suspend the cushion to the vehicle body.

Description

Curtain Airbag Module {CURTAIN AIRBAG MODULE}

The present invention relates to a curtain airbag module, and more particularly, to a curtain airbag module having a variable length tab for improving all passenger passenger protection.

In general, curtain airbag cushions, which spread out like a side window in a vehicle crash, are modularized together with an inflator for its deployment and installed on a vehicle roof side rail.

The curtain airbag cushion is disposed so as to extend from the A-pillar to the B-pillar to the C-pillar side along the roof side rail when the vehicle is mounted, and a tab is provided in an area corresponding to each pillar area to suspend the cushion to the vehicle body. Prepared.

On the other hand, the curtain airbag cushion generally has a deployment shape as shown in FIG. The shape of the cushion 1 is completely overlooked that the protection range of all passengers may not be satisfactory even though various factors such as passenger protection, deployment speed, direction, and the like are taken into consideration.

If this problem was recognized by someone, there would have been an attempt to alter the shape of the front end of the cushion so that the head of the passenger seat could be properly protected. However, no such attempt is made in the art.

In addition, the shape change of the cushion has to consider various design variables, and the increase in the volume of the cushion is accompanied by an increase in the capacity of the inflator, which is difficult to adopt. Perhaps because of this, there is no document that recognizes the above problems or suggests alternatives for solving these problems.

The present invention has been proposed based on the recognition of the problems of the prior art as described above, and an object of the present invention is to provide a curtain airbag module with improved protection of all passengers by simple structure improvement without changing the shape of the cushion.

Curtain airbag module according to the present invention for achieving the above object, characterized in that the plurality of tabs connected to the cushion in order to suspend the cushion to the vehicle body is composed of a variable tab that can be changed in length.

The tabs for suspending at least one longitudinal shear of the cushion to the vehicle body are folded to overlap one another in any section along the tab longitudinal direction and the overlapping portions are temporarily fixed in length so that they can unfold when a certain force is applied. It may be a variable tap.

In addition, the overlapped portion may be stitched along the cushion longitudinal direction.

In addition, the tabs other than the variable tab may not be changed in length, and may be fixed tabs having a length shorter than that when the variable tab is unfolded.

According to the curtain airbag module according to the present invention as described above, it is possible to protect the head and chin of all passengers by lowering the front end of the cushion while the length of the variable tab is extended when the cushion is deployed, without changing the shape of the cushion. .

1 is a view showing a deployment shape of a conventional curtain airbag cushion,
2 is a view showing a curtain airbag module according to an embodiment of the present invention,
3 is a view showing an expanded shape of the curtain airbag cushion shown in FIG.
4 is a schematic diagram showing a cross section along the line AA of FIG. 3;
5 is a schematic view showing a state in which the cushion is deployed in the state of FIG.

Hereinafter, with reference to the accompanying drawings looks at with respect to the curtain airbag module according to an embodiment of the present invention.

As shown in FIG. 2, the curtain airbag module 10 according to the embodiment basically includes a folded cushion 20, an inflator 50, and tabs 30 and 40.

The cushion 20 is folded to extend along the roof side rail when the vehicle is mounted, and the inflator 50 is connected to one side of the cushion 20 to provide a deployment pressure to the cushion 20.

The tabs 30 and 40 are provided in plural along the longitudinal direction of the cushion 20 so that the cushion 20 can be suspended from the vehicle body. According to the exemplary embodiment, the plurality of tabs 30 and 40 may include a variable length tab 30 provided at the longitudinal front end portion (A-pillar side) of the cushion 20 and a longitudinal stop portion (B-pillar side) of the cushion 20. ) And a fixed tab 40 provided at the rear end (C-pillar side).

As shown in Figure 3, in the curtain airbag module according to the embodiment, the shape of the cushion 20 is the same as the conventional. However, as the length of the tab is extended when the cushion 20 is deployed, the front end portion of the cushion 20 may be lowered as compared with the conventional one (compared to FIG. 1), thereby protecting the chin portion of all passengers.

In order to allow the cushion 20 to be developed as described above, at least the first tab 30a for suspending the longitudinal front end of the cushion 20 to the vehicle body needs to be a variable tab, and furthermore, more stable deployment and shape maintenance. In order to do so, the second tab 30b lying between the first tab 30a and the tab near the B-pillar needs to be a variable tab.

On the front end of the cushion to protect the head portion of all passengers is provided with a variable tab 30 is extended by the expansion force of the cushion 20, the length of the remaining cushion portion despite the expansion force of the cushion 20 is provided The fixed tab 40 which is not changed is provided.

The structure of the variable tab 30 mentioned above will be described with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5.

As shown in Fig. 4, the variable tab 30 extends upwardly from the cushion 20 so that the upper end thereof can be suspended from the vehicle body (this is the same as the fixed tab), and the variable tab 30 is in the longitudinal direction. It is folded so as to overlap each other in any section along, and this overlapped portion 31 is temporarily fixed to be unfolded when a certain force or more is applied.

As a temporary fixing method, sewing is useful. This is because the critical point at which the overlapped portions 31 are unfolded can be adjusted by adjusting the thickness of the thread, the sewing interval, and the like. Considering the direction in which the overlapped portions 31 are unfolded, it is appropriate that the stitching be transverse, that is, the cushion lengthwise direction so that the stitching portion can be torn at once.

On the other hand, in addition to sewing as a temporary fixing method will be able to use a variety of known elements such as adhesives, clips.

As shown in FIG. 5, when gas pressure is provided from the inflator 50, the overlapping portion 31 of the variable tab 30 is unfolded by the force of the cushion 20 to extend the length of the tab, thereby extending the seat passenger's seat. The head can of course be protected by the cushion 20 up to the chin.

The passenger protection range by the cushion 20 is to be improved, this passenger protection range can be adjusted as needed by adjusting the total length of the variable tab (30). According to this embodiment, it is not necessary to change the shape of the cushion and can be used in common for all curtain airbag cushions existing in the past.

On the other hand, before the variable tab 30 is still unfolded, the fixed state of the overlapping portion 31 of the variable tab 30 should be sufficient so that its length does not change, and the total length of the variable tab 30 is the total length of the fixed tab 40. Longer than length

Although specific embodiments of the present invention have been shown and described, the present invention may be variously modified and changed without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the claims below, and this is in the technical field of the present invention. It should be understood that it is self-evident to those of ordinary knowledge.
