Abstract
Liquid crystal display devices used in LCD projectors require fast response and high resolution. The higher the resolution, the narrower the distance between the pixel electrode and the peripheral wirings, so that the horizontal electric field becomes larger, so that the thickness of the liquid crystal layer is lowered to reduce the influence of the horizontal electric field. The thinner the thickness of the liquid crystal layer, the faster the response characteristics. However, when the thickness of the liquid crystal display device becomes thinner, the gap between the liquid crystal layer may be caused by unevenness of the spacer, flatness of the substrate, and injection of particles in the production process. It is difficult to secure uniformity of thickness. In the present invention, by placing a dielectric film between the liquid crystal layer and the alignment layer, the voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer is changed according to the thickness change of the liquid crystal layer, thereby minimizing the change in transmittance (reflectance) of the liquid crystal display device with respect to the thickness change of the liquid crystal layer. In the present invention, since the dielectric film between the liquid crystal layer and the alignment layer is made into a multi-layer having different refractive indices and a mirror function is added, the reflectance of the reflective liquid crystal display device can be increased and the production process can be reduced. The liquid crystal display device of the present invention can be applied to a projection type liquid crystal display device entering a liquid crystal projector by minimizing the change in transmittance (reflectance) with respect to the thickness change of the liquid crystal layer.

A liquid crystal display device used in an LCD projector displays an image by applying a voltage to a liquid crystal layer using an active element such as a thin film transistor (TFT) for each pixel. The liquid crystal display device used in the liquid crystal projector is classified into a projection type in which light passes through the pixel electrode and a reflection type in which light is reflected from the pixel electrode. 1 is an equivalent circuit diagram of a unit pixel of a liquid crystal display device using a TFT device. 8 is a cross-sectional view of a conventional reflective TFT liquid
Such a conventional liquid crystal display device inserts the
The change in the transmittance of light in the front direction with respect to the change in the thickness of the liquid crystal layer was examined. Physical properties of the injected liquid crystal are shown in Table 1.
The light transmittance of the 90 degree TN transmissive liquid crystal display device with the liquid crystal of Table 1 was calculated by computer simulation by varying the thickness of the liquid crystal cell. The thickness of the liquid crystal layer as a reference was 2.5 µm, and the change in the thickness of the liquid crystal cell was ± 0.5 µm. Table 2 shows the relative transmittance changes when the transmittance was 100%, 50%, and 20%. In the state where no voltage is applied (Normal White), the transmittance changes by about 15% with respect to the change of the thickness of the liquid crystal cell of 2.5 ± 0.5㎛, but it can be seen that the lower the transmittance, the larger the transmittance change.
10 is a schematic diagram of a conventional liquid crystal projector. As described in Table 3 below, the liquid crystal display device used in the liquid crystal projector has a different pixel pitch depending on the size of the screen and the mode of the screen.
Although the pitch of the pixels of the TFT liquid crystal display device used in the liquid crystal projector varies depending on the size of the screen and the display mode, products of about 8 to 20 탆 are commercially available. The higher the resolution, the narrower the distance between the pixel electrode and the peripheral wirings, so that the horizontal electric field becomes larger, so that the thickness of the liquid crystal layer is lowered to reduce the influence of the horizontal electric field. Therefore, the liquid crystal display device according to the related art and the liquid crystal projector using the same have a greater variation in thickness as the thickness of the liquid crystal layer becomes thinner, so that the transmittance (reflectance) is different and the image quality is deteriorated.
11 and 13 are sectional views of the TFT liquid crystal display device of the present invention, and FIG. 12 is a sectional view of the

18 is a rate of change of the transmittance curve of the liquid crystal display device according to the change of the capacitance of the dielectric film.
The physical properties of the liquid crystal were as shown in Table 1, and the thickness of the liquid crystal layer as a reference was 2.5 µm. The criterion was set to 1 for the capacitance of the liquid crystal layer when no voltage was applied. Curves (a) and (b) show the change in transmittance when the thickness of the liquid crystal cell is 2.0 μm and 3.0 μm, respectively, with a voltage of 20%. Curves (C) and (D) show changes in transmittance when the thickness of the liquid crystal cell is 2.0 μm and 3.0 μm, respectively, with a voltage of 50% transmittance. It can be seen that when the relative capacitance of the

투명도가 우수한 배향막(130,330)으로는 DLC(Diomand Like Corbon)가 있다. If the
In the case of a liquid crystal display device having a built-in color filter for a single-plate type liquid crystal projector, the color filter layer functions as a dielectric film when the color filter layer is placed between the pixel electrode and the common electrode. The color filter selectively transmits light with a polymer organic film and acts as a dielectric film to reduce the change in transmittance of the thickness change of the liquid crystal layer in a voltage applied state.
In the case of the reflective type, the dielectric film may be a multilayer having different refractive indices so that the dielectric film has a mirror-like function. A representative case is a multilayer coating of SiO 2 and Ti 2 O 5 . Adjusting the film thickness and the number of layers has mirror characteristics. Such a mirror is called a dielectric mirror.

Fig. 19 is a schematic diagram of a liquid crystal projector of the present invention, and an apparatus provided with a liquid crystal display device according to the present invention.

In the liquid crystal display device of the present invention, even if the thickness of the liquid crystal layer is thin, there is little change in the transmittance or reflectance of the liquid crystal display device with respect to the change in the thickness of the liquid crystal layer. Defects caused by the injection of particles can be reduced, and as a result, the brightness of the screen in a state where the voltage is applied to the liquid crystal layer becomes uniform, thereby improving image quality. In addition, the liquid crystal display device of the present invention can improve the image quality without an additional process by making the dielectric film into a multi-layer having a different refractive index to have a mirror function or a color filter function to selectively transmit light.
