Abstract

PURPOSE: A remote control pointing device linked with a digital set-top box and a method for using the same are provided to realize a pointer by using a digital set-top box, and conveniently move the pointer by using a remote control operating the digital set-top box. CONSTITUTION: A pointer image storage element(210) stores an image of a pointer. A television output unit(220) outputs the image of the pointer to a television. A remote control receiving element(230) receives a signal from a remote control. A remote control signal analyzing unit(240) analyzes the signal received from the remote control. A coordinate calculating element(250) decides coordinates to move the pointer to a predetermined position on a television screen according to the result of the analysis. A central processing unit(260) controls and executes each element.
