Abstract

PURPOSE: A polymer electrolyte-type fuel cell having a reliable sealing structure is provided, to prevent the leakage of fuel, an oxidizing agent and cooling water and the mixing of each fluid and to suppress the swelling of components due to heat and moisture with maintaining mechanical stiffness. CONSTITUTION: The polymer electrolyte-type fuel cell stack generates current by electrochemical reaction of a plurality of layered unit cells comprising a membrane electrode assembly(120) which comprises a polymer electrolyte membrane and an anode(123) and a cathode(124) formed in both sides of the membrane; a pair of fluid distribution layers(125) which are joined to the anode and the cathode, respectively; a pair of separators(130) which are closely combined to the outer faces of the fluid distribution layers, respectively, has a plurality of channels forming a reaction region on the surface and has a manifold for the pathway of a reaction gas in neighboring of the reaction region. A first gasket(181) having a smaller strain and a second gasket(182) having a larger strain than that of the fluid distribution layer along the reaction region and the outline of the manifold between the separator and the membrane electrode assembly, and the first gasket is made of metal plate, graphite foil or carbon composite material.
