Abstract
The present invention relates to a format conversion circuit according to an image type of an LCD TV. In the prior art, the format conversion method has no problem for a still picture such as a VGA signal, but the first field mode format conversion method is low. There is a problem that the screen becomes coarse because the data of the resolution is copied as it is without reference to other information and converted into XGA resolution. In the second frame mode format conversion method, a high quality screen is obtained when there is no change between fields such as still images. On the other hand, there is a problem that the screen is dragged in an image having a lot of interfield movement. Therefore, in the present invention, when converting a low-resolution interlaced signal into a progressive signal such as XGA, the present invention detects whether there is a motion image for each frame. The screen can be displayed, and moving images with a lot of motion can be converted to the field mode to reduce deterioration of image quality such as screen drag.
Description
The present invention relates to an LCD TV, and in particular, in converting an interlaced image into a sequential scanning method using a format converter, it detects whether there is a moving image or no moving image for each frame, and makes a still image with almost no movement. Converts to a frame mode to form a higher quality screen, and converts a moving image into a field mode to prevent deterioration of image quality by moving objects and to display a high resolution screen type. The present invention relates to a format conversion circuit.
In general, current LCD TVs use progressive scan technology, which is a sequential scanning method that converts an analog TV signal into a 620 × 480 interlaced digital signal and then doubles the scanning line. Use the format converter to convert to 768 resolution.
FIG. 1 is an exemplary diagram for describing an operation of a general format converter. In the conventional format converter, two fields are stored in a frame memory (not shown) as shown therein, and a simple line at an appropriate ratio according to an input / output ratio is shown. The copy is made to produce the desired resolution.
At this time, a format conversion of a low resolution interlaced signal such as a TV signal into a progressive signal is performed in two ways as shown in FIG.
The first method is a field mode format conversion method, in which a resolution of one field (640 × 240) is copied as it is without reference to other information and converted to XGA resolution as shown in FIG. As a mode format conversion, as shown in (b) of FIG. 2, when two fields are stored in a memory, they are stored in a frame form and converted into XGA resolution.
However, although the format conversion method in the prior art has no problem with a still image, the field format format conversion method, which is the first format conversion method, uses XGA resolution by copying low-resolution data without reference to other information. There was a problem that the screen becomes quite coarse because it is converted to, and the frame format format conversion method, which is the second format conversion method, has the advantage of obtaining a high quality screen when there is no change between fields such as still images, while moving between fields. In many of these images, the screen is dragged.
Therefore, the present invention was created in order to solve the above-mentioned conventional problem, and after determining the movement between two fields and extracting the line with movement and the line without movement, the portion without movement, that is, the still image is in the frame mode. High quality screen by converting to a high quality screen and moving parts, that is, moving image to field mode, prevents deterioration of the quality of moving objects by dragging, and formats according to the image type of LCD for displaying high quality screen The purpose is to provide a conversion circuit.

As shown in FIG. 3, each odd / even field is received by receiving a luminance signal output from the frame memory 3. Edge detectors 10a and 10b for detecting a line edge of the edge; Compare the address and data of the edge Edge output from the edge detectors 10a and 10b, and if the difference is less than or equal to a predetermined pixel, determine that it is a stationary part. Section 20; A switching unit 30 for switching signals output from the frame memory to odd / even field edge detectors 10a and 10b using odd / even signals output from the multimedia processor 1, respectively; As a result of the comparison of the line comparison unit 20, a microprocessor converts the format to the frame mode in the case of a still image and converts the format to the field mode in the case of a moving image. The operation according to the embodiment of the present invention configured as described above is performed. And explaining the operation as follows.
First, each edge detector 10a, 10b detects only the edge portion of the line in each field and outputs the address value of the edge and the data value of the address to the line comparison unit 20.
From these values, the line comparator 20 compares whether two lines of data are the same value and calculates the address difference between these line values when they are the same and then sets the value 'low' when the difference value of these addresses is 3 or less. If 3 or more, 'high' is output to the microprocessor (not shown).
Also, if the values of two lines are completely different, 'high' is always displayed.
Accordingly, the microprocessor (not shown) receiving the signal output from the line comparing unit 20 controls the format converter 2 according to the input value of each line.
That is, when the output of the line comparator 20 is 'low', the edge of the line is at the same position as the next line, or the line is in the frame mode because the image has almost no movement of one or two pixels. Format the next and next lines, and vice versa, because the edges move relatively much. Format the field mode so that the two lines consist of odd line data in the same odd field and even line data in the even field. do.
In this way, a part with many changes in one screen can use the field data as it is without any processing to remove the deterioration of dragging an object, and display a high quality screen by using frame data for the part without change.
In other words, the lines of the two fields of the TV signal are compared with each other, and if the difference in movement between these two lines is less than 3 pixels, it is judged as a stationary part. It configures one frame in mode, and the non-moving part configures one frame in frame mode, and then converts the two frames into the progressive XGA field format.
As described above, the format conversion circuit according to the image type of the LCD of the present invention detects whether there is a motion image for each frame when converting a low resolution interlaced signal into a progressive signal such as XGA. A still image with little motion can be converted into a frame mode to display a high quality screen, and a moving image with many motions can be converted to a field mode to reduce image quality deterioration such as screen drag. .
