Abstract

PURPOSE: A method for varying a scan speed of an optical disk playing device is provided to vary the scan speed by using a preset speed decision function, according to the number of inputted times of a scan key when a screen is searched, or to directly vary the scan speed by using a numeric key, so as to perform a fast searching. CONSTITUTION: An optical disk playing device detects whether an optional key is inputted for scan speed varying, during a scan operation performance(S11). If so, the device calculates the number of jumped tracks, and decides a scan speed linearly or non-linearly according to the number of inputted times of a scan key(S12). If an optional numeric key is inputted, the device varies the scan speed at a speed corresponding to a numeric(S13). The device jumps as many as the number of the calculated tracks at the decided speed, and searches a header of an I-picture(S14). If the header is not searched, the device repeatedly searches the I-picture as maintaining a previous screen(S15). If the I-picture is searched, the device decodes the I-picture to display the I-picture(S16).
