An object of the present invention is to provide a tunable elastic wave device which can adjust frequency characteristics using a ferroelectric material and has a small number of parts and is easy to design.
A tunable elastic wave device according to the present invention includes a ferroelectric and an IDT electrode that is provided so as to be in contact with the ferroelectric and that excites the elastic wave. That is, the tunable elastic wave device according to the present invention uses an elastic wave excited by the IDT electrode. In the present invention, there is further provided a DC voltage application electrode for changing the sound velocity of the elastic wave by applying a DC voltage to the ferroelectric.
In a specific aspect of the tunable acoustic wave device according to the present invention, the IDT electrode also serves as a DC voltage application electrode. In this case, the components of the tunable elastic wave device can be further reduced.
In another specific aspect of the tunable acoustic wave device of the present invention, the DC voltage application electrode is provided separately from the IDT electrode. As described above, a DC voltage application electrode may be provided separately from the IDT electrode. In this case, the first and second DC voltage application electrodes are configured as the DC voltage application electrodes.
In another specific aspect of the tunable acoustic wave device according to the present invention, a piezoelectric layer laminated on a ferroelectric is further provided. In this case, the elastic wave can be excited more effectively. However, since the ferroelectric substance itself exhibits a piezoelectric effect, the piezoelectric layer is not necessarily provided in the present invention.
In still another specific aspect of the tunable acoustic wave device according to the present invention, the IDT electrode is provided in contact with the piezoelectric layer. In this case, the elastic wave can be excited more effectively.
In another specific aspect of the tunable elastic wave device according to the present invention, the IDT electrode is provided at an interface between the ferroelectric layer and the piezoelectric layer. In this case, the IDT electrode can be effectively protected from the outside, and moisture resistance and the like can be improved.
In still another specific aspect of the tunable elastic wave device according to the present invention, the DC voltage applying electrode is provided in the same plane in contact with the ferroelectric layer. In this case, the DC voltage application electrode can be formed in the same process in a thin film formation method or the like.
In still another specific aspect of the tunable elastic wave device according to the present invention, the DC voltage applying electrodes are provided so as to face each other with the ferroelectric substance interposed therebetween. In this case, a higher DC voltage can be applied by the ferroelectric material, and the frequency adjustment range can be further expanded.
In the tunable elastic wave device according to the present invention, barium strontium titanate is preferably used as the ferroelectric material. In this case, the frequency characteristics can be more effectively adjusted by applying a DC voltage.
In the tunable elastic wave device according to the present invention, the sound speed of the elastic wave can be changed by applying a DC voltage to the ferroelectric, and thereby the frequency characteristic due to the response of the elastic wave can be adjusted. Therefore, according to the present invention, since the sound speed itself of the elastic wave for obtaining the frequency characteristics can be changed with a simple structure, not only the frequency adjustment can be easily performed, but also the number of parts is small and the design is easy. A filter can be obtained.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be clarified by describing specific embodiments of the present invention with reference to the drawings.
Fig.1 (a) is front sectional drawing of the tunable elastic wave apparatus which concerns on the 1st Embodiment of this invention.

In the tunable elastic wave device 1 of the present embodiment, a surface acoustic wave is excited by applying an AC voltage between the
In FIG. 1B, the
The tunable elastic wave device 1 according to the present invention is characterized in that the frequency characteristics can be adjusted by applying a DC voltage between the
Conventionally, it has been known that the dielectric constant ε of the ferroelectric 4 changes when a DC voltage is applied. In Patent Document 1 described above, this change in relative permittivity, that is, the change in capacitance is used.
On the other hand, this embodiment utilizes the fact that the sound velocity of the surface acoustic wave excited by the
In the tunable elastic wave device 1, the sound speed of the excited surface acoustic wave can be changed by changing the DC voltage applied to the ferroelectric 4. Therefore, the frequency characteristic can be adjusted. In addition, since the sound velocity itself of the surface acoustic wave is changed, the degree of freedom in adjusting the frequency characteristics can be increased, and the degree of freedom in designing the tunable surface acoustic wave device 1 can be greatly increased. In addition, the number of parts can be reduced.
Here, the fact that the sound velocity of the surface acoustic wave changes when a DC voltage is applied to the
The tunable elastic wave device 1 was prepared with the following specifications.
R-plane sapphire substrates having propagation directions ψ of 10 °, 0 °, 90 °, and 60 ° with respect to the (0-111) direction were prepared. On the sapphire substrate, an
FIGS. 3 to 6 show the tunable elastic wave devices having surface acoustic wave propagation directions ψ of 10 °, 0 °, 90 °, and 60 ° with respect to the (0-111) direction. 3 is a diagram showing the relationship between the speed of sound of a surface acoustic wave and a DC voltage applied to a
IEEE TRANSECTIONS ON ULTRASONICS, FERROELECTRICS, AND FREQUENCY CONTROL, vol.45,NO.2,MARCH 1998の第421ページ〜第430ページに「A Method for Calibrating the Line−Focus−Beam Acoustic Microscopy System」に記載の方法である。 The sound velocity of the surface acoustic wave was measured according to the method schematically shown in FIG. This method is described in IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ULTRASONICS, FERROELECTRICS, AND FREQUENCY CONTROL, vol. 45, NO. 2, MARCH 1998, pages 421 to 430, as described in “A Method for Calibrating the Line-Focus-Beam Acoustic Microscopy System”.
As shown in FIG. 2, the
As apparent from FIGS. 3 to 6, it can be seen that the sound velocity of the surface acoustic wave changes greatly by applying a DC voltage. When the DC voltage is between 0 and 20V, the sound speed is increased or slightly higher than when the DC voltage is not applied. However, when the DC voltage exceeds 20V, the sound speed of the surface acoustic wave decreases as the DC voltage increases. Become. Therefore, in the tunable elastic wave device 1 of the present embodiment, the sound velocity of the surface acoustic wave can be changed by changing the DC voltage. Therefore, the frequency characteristic can be changed. Moreover, since the sound speed itself of the surface acoustic wave is changed, the tunable surface acoustic wave device 1 can greatly increase the degree of design freedom when adjusting the frequency.

The first DC

In the present embodiment, in the intersecting region where the surface acoustic wave is excited, the elastic constant of the ferroelectric 4 can be reliably changed by applying a DC voltage, and the sound velocity of the surface acoustic wave can be changed reliably.

FIG. 12A is a schematic diagram showing the positional relationship between the
FIG. 13 is a schematic front sectional view showing a tunable
Also in each embodiment or modification shown in FIGS. 11 to 13, for example, as shown by a broken line in FIG. 11, the first and second DC
FIG. 14 is a front sectional view showing a tunable
In the tunable
In each of the above-described embodiments, the surface acoustic wave is used as the elastic wave. However, not only the surface acoustic wave but also a boundary acoustic wave may be used. In that case, for example, a medium layer may be further stacked on the ferroelectric 4 in the first embodiment so as to excite the boundary acoustic wave.
In the embodiment described above, barium strontium titanate is used as the ferroelectric, but other ferroelectrics such as Pb (Ti, Zr) O 3 , PbTiO 3 , BiTaO 3, etc. may be used.
