Description
The present invention relates to a backlight device and a backlight control method.
The liquid crystal display device in the prior art includes an RGB color filter substrate, a liquid crystal layer, a backlight device, and the like. Such a backlight device of a liquid crystal display device improves the display color reproduction range in the liquid crystal display device by mixing red (R), green (G), and blue (B) to emit white light. Has been proposed.
The backlight device in the prior art is a color sensor with a color filter according to spectral characteristics corresponding to each color of RGB, and detects the luminance of emitted light. Then, the calculation means of the backlight device obtains the current value of the backlight of each color so that the chromaticity of the mixed white light becomes a predetermined value from each detected luminance. In this case, the computing means firstly approximates the amount of change in the light receiving sensitivity due to the change in the wavelength of the backlight light of each color based on the spectral characteristics, and calculates the current value obtained by correcting the decrease in the light receiving sensitivity due to the spectral characteristics of the color sensor. There is what is required (for example, see Patent Document 1).
However, the color filter of the color sensor described in
FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating an example of light transmission characteristics of the RGB color filter according to the related art. In FIG. 4, the horizontal axis represents the wavelength, the vertical axis represents the light transmittance, the curve g901 represents the light transmittance with respect to the wavelength of the blue filter, the curve g902 represents the light transmittance with respect to the wavelength of the green filter, and the curve g903 represents the wavelength of the red filter. Is the light transmittance. As shown in FIG. 4, the band where the transmittance of the blue filter is 20 [%] or more is about 400 [nm] to 540 [nm] as indicated by a curve g901. A band in which the transmittance of the green filter is 20 [%] or more is about 480 [nm] to 600 [nm] as indicated by a curve g902. A band in which the transmittance of the red filter is 20 [%] or more is approximately 590 [nm] to 720 [nm] as indicated by a curve g903. Since each color filter has spectral characteristics as shown in FIG. 4, for example, the green color sensor detects a light amount of a wavelength of about 450 [nm] to 540 [nm]. Further, the red color sensor detects several [%] of the amount of light having a wavelength of about 380 [nm] to 540 [nm] in the blue band. In addition, the red color sensor also detects the amount of light having a wavelength of about 570 [nm] to 600 [nm] in the green band of several [%] to 20 [%].
As a result, interference between colors occurs as shown in FIG. FIG. 5 is a diagram for explaining an example of interference between colors according to the related art. In FIG. 5, the horizontal axis represents the color of the backlight and the color detected by the color sensor, and the vertical axis represents the light emission amount of the backlight and the detection value of the color sensor. A symbol g921 represents a detection value of the blue color sensor, and a symbol g922 represents a light emission amount of the blue backlight. As shown in FIG. 5, for example, when only the blue light of the backlight is emitted with the light amount a911, the blue color sensor detects a luminance a912 smaller than the light amount a911 as indicated by a circle g911 surrounded by a broken line. The green color sensor detects the luminance a 913 by interference between colors as indicated by a circle g912 surrounded by a broken line. The red color sensor detects the luminance a 914 by inter-color interference as indicated by a circle g913 surrounded by a broken line.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and in a display device using a backlight of a plurality of colors, a backlight that can reduce the influence on the backlight control due to inter-color interference of the color filter. And calculating the driving value for driving each of the plurality of light sources of the light emitting unit based on the corrected luminance.
The backlight device of the present invention uses a relational expression stored in advance between each light emission luminance detected by each of the plurality of detection units and each drive value of each light emission unit and each driving value of the light emission unit. However, the driving value supplied to each of the plurality of light emitting units is calculated so that the luminance of each light emitting unit becomes a predetermined value. As a result, the influence on the backlight control due to the inter-color interference of the color filter can be reduced.

The blue backlight drive

The backlight drive unit 7 is based on the drive signals output from the blue backlight drive
FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating an example of interference between colors in the
On the other hand, the detection amount obtained by converting the detection value of the green color sensor 32 by the
As a result, it is possible to reduce the influence on the backlight control due to the inter-color interference of the color filter used in each color sensor.
For example, in the backlight device according to the prior art, the inter-color interference due to the color filter used in each color sensor is about 1/10 to 1/100. On the other hand, the inter-color interference after being converted by the

FIG. 3 is a diagram for explaining an example of luminance transient vibration during high-speed control of the backlight according to the present embodiment. In FIG. 3, the horizontal axis represents time, and the vertical axis represents luminance. In FIG. 3, a curved broken line 201 represents a change in luminance with respect to time when a color filter having a low light transmittance is used, and a curved line 202 represents a change in luminance with respect to time in the
If a color filter with low light transmittance is used in order to reduce inter-color interference due to the color filter, the output value of each color sensor becomes small, and the sensitivity of each color sensor becomes low. When the backlight is driven at a high speed using a color filter having a low light transmittance in this way, transient vibration of luminance chromaticity is likely to occur as shown by a curved broken line 201. When such excessive vibration has occurred, in the multi-color backlight device, the white color of the screen cannot be converged to a constant luminance within 0.1 seconds, for example, and follows the display content of the screen. Therefore, it is difficult to switch the luminance chromaticity of the backlight at high speed (for example, 60 times per second).

As described above, in the
