Abstract
ビデオチャットサービス装置は、ビデオチャット装置と、予備のビデオチャット装置と、切替装置と、制御装置を有する。ビデオチャット装置は、複数のユーザ端末装置に対してビデオチャットに必要な信号の交換を行う。制御装置は、ビデオチャット装置の異常が発生したと判断したときに、切替装置を予備のビデオチャット装置にリンクさせるとともに予備のビデオチャット装置を制御することによって、ビデオチャットの処理を継続させる。The video chat service device includes a video chat device, a spare video chat device, a switching device, and a control device. この発明は、ビデオチャットサービス制御方法およびビデオチャットサービス装置に関するものである。
背景技術
遠隔地にいる複数の利用者が互いを視認しながら、会話を行うビデオチャットサービス(テレビ会議サービスともいう)はすでに実現されている。一旦、ビデオチャットサービスが開始されたら、チャット参加者達が自らの意思でサービスの終了を決定するまで、サービスが途切れないことが望ましい。
特開昭63−220683号公報には、このためのビデオチャットサービス装置(多地点間テレビ会議制御装置)が開示されている。第12図は、特開昭63−220683号公報に開示されたビデオチャットサービス装置を示す。図において、1a,1b,1cは会議の参加者の端末、2a,2b,2c,2dはインタフェース部、3a,3b,3c,3dは映像処理部、4,4’は映像多重切り替え部、5,5’は制御部、6a,6b,6c,6dは音声処理部、7,7’は音声レベル検出回路、8,8’は音声加算・分配回路、11,12,16は予備切り替えスイッチ、13,14,15,17は予備切り替えスイッチ、18は切り替え制御回路、19は試験用端末を示す。
次に動作について説明する。会議の参加者の端末1a〜1cのために、通常時は、インタフェース部2a〜2c、映像処理部3a〜3c、音声処理部6a〜6cが使用され、端末1a〜1cは映像と音声の信号を相互に交換することができる。インタフェース部2a〜2c、映像処理部3a〜3c、音声処理部6a〜6cのいずれかが故障した場合には、切り替え制御回路18の制御の下に、符号dが付された予備の構成要素が使用される。例えば、インタフェース部2a〜2cのいずれかが故障した場合には、インタフェース部2dが代用される。
また、通常時には、映像多重切り替え部4、制御部5、音声レベル検出回路7、音声加算・分配回路8が使用されるが、異常時には、符号’が付された予備の構成要素が使用される。例えば、映像多重切り替え部4が故障した場合には、映像多重切り替え部4’が代用される。このように、ビデオチャットを実現するビデオチャットサービス装置の構成要素または構成要素群のそれぞれに予備の構成要素を付加することで、ビデオチャットサービスの信頼性を向上しようとする。
従来のビデオチャットサービス装置は以上のように構成されているので、各群に対して切り替えスイッチが必要になり、製造コストを上昇させる。また各群のための切り替えスイッチを制御しなければならないので、制御処理も複雑になるなどの課題があった。また、予備の構成要素を設けない構成要素があれば、その構成要素が故障すると、ビデオチャットサービスを継続できない。
また、従来は、限られた数の端末の利用を想定して、ビデオチャットサービス装置が設計されている。つまり、会議の参加者の端末1a〜1cのために、通常時は、インタフェース部2a〜2c、映像処理部3a〜3c、音声処理部6a〜6dが使用される。この設計に従うと、ビデオチャットサービスの潜在的な利用者が増加すると、構成要素の数が莫大になってしまう。さらに、ビデオチャットサービスの潜在的な利用者が増加しても、高い信頼性をもって途切れることなく継続できるビデオチャットサービスが望まれている。
この発明は上記のような課題を解決するためになされたもので、簡易な制御によって高い信頼性をもって、ビデオチャットサービスを途切れることなく継続することが可能なビデオチャットサービス制御方法を得ることを目的とする。

発明の開示
この発明に係るビデオチャットサービス制御方法は、ビデオチャット装置によって、複数のユーザ端末装置に対してビデオチャットに必要なビデオ信号および音声信号の交換を行って、ビデオチャットサービスを提供することと、制御装置によって、ビデオチャット装置の異常が発生したことを検知することと、前記ビデオチャット装置の異常が発生したと判断したときに、前記ビデオチャット装置に代用される予備のビデオチャット装置を前記制御装置によって制御することによって、ビデオチャットサービスを継続させることとを備えるものである。
このことによって、簡易な制御によって高い信頼性をもって、ビデオチャットサービスを途切れることなく継続することが可能である。また、ビデオチャット装置および予備のビデオチャット装置自体が、複数のユーザ端末装置に対してビデオチャットに必要なビデオ信号および音声信号の交換を行って、ビデオチャットサービスを提供する機能を持つので、ビデオチャットサービスの潜在的な利用者が増加しても、構成要素の数の増加を最小限にすることができ、高い信頼性をもって途切れることなく継続できるビデオチャットサービスを提供することができる。
この発明に係るビデオチャットサービス制御方法は、一つの形態として、制御装置がビデオチャット装置が有効に利用可能なリソースの量を監視し、前記リソースの量が閾値未満になると、前記制御装置はビデオチャット装置の異常が発生したと判断するものである。
このことによって、ビデオチャット装置が利用可能なリソースのいくつかが一時的に使用不可能または故障した場合でも、他の利用可能なリソースを代用してビデオチャットサービスを継続でき、一時的な使用不可能または故障といった理由で有効に利用可能なリソースの量が閾値未満になると、それまで利用されていた通常のビデオチャット装置が予備のビデオチャット装置に交替する。従って、閾値を適切に設定することによって、実際にビデオチャット装置が動作不可能になってビデオチャットサービスが途切れる前に、ビデオチャット装置を交替させることができる。
この発明に係るビデオチャットサービス装置は、複数のユーザ端末装置にリンク可能であって、前記ユーザ端末装置に対してビデオチャットに必要なビデオ信号および音声信号の交換を行うことが可能なビデオチャット装置と、複数のユーザ端末装置にリンク可能であって、前記ユーザ端末装置に対してビデオチャットに必要なビデオ信号および音声信号の交換を行うことが可能で、前記ビデオチャット装置に代用可能な予備のビデオチャット装置と、前記ビデオチャット装置の異常の発生を判断するために前記ビデオチャット装置の状態を監視し、前記ビデオチャット装置の異常が発生したと判断したときに、前記ユーザ端末装置を前記予備のビデオチャット装置にリンクさせるとともに前記予備のビデオチャット装置を制御することによって、ビデオチャットサービスを継続させる制御装置とを備えたものである。

このことによって、使用されていた通常のビデオチャット装置が予備のビデオチャット装置に交替しても、予備のビデオチャット装置を現在または将来利用すべきビデオチャットサービスを表す情報を予備のビデオチャット装置に通知するので、混乱を招くことなく、円滑にビデオチャットサービスを継続したり、予定されていたビデオチャットサービスを開始したりすることができる。
この発明に係るビデオチャットサービス装置は、一つの形態として、同時に行われる複数のビデオチャットサービスを分担する複数のビデオチャット装置を備えており、制御装置は、前記ビデオチャット装置のいずれかに異常が発生したと判断したときに、どのビデオチャット装置に異常が発生したかを検知するものである。
このことによって、複数のビデオチャット装置が、同時に行われる複数のビデオチャットサービスを分担できるので、ビデオチャットサービスの潜在的な利用者が増加しても、ビデオチャットサービス装置は円滑に稼働することが可能である。そして、ビデオチャット装置のいずれかに異常が発生したと判断したときに、どのビデオチャット装置に異常が発生したかを検知するので、問題が生じたビデオチャットサービスを高い信頼性をもって途切れることなく継続できる。
この発明に係るビデオチャットサービス装置は、一つの形態として、複数の予備のビデオチャット装置を備えており、制御装置は、前記ビデオチャット装置のいずれかに異常が発生したと判断したときに、異常が発生した前記ビデオチャット装置に代用する予備のビデオチャット装置を選択するものである。
このことによって、複数のビデオチャット装置のいくつかに異常が発生した場合にも、それらが担当していた複数のビデオチャットサービスを複数の予備のビデオチャット装置に割り当てることが可能であり、これらのビデオチャットサービスを継続することができる。
この発明に係るビデオチャットサービス装置は、一つの形態として、制御装置はオペレータが操作するオペレータ端末にリンクされており、前記ビデオチャット装置に異常が発生したと判断したときに、前記オペレータ端末に異常を通知し、前記オペレータ端末から要求に従って、切替装置を予備のビデオチャット装置にリンクさせるとともに前記予備のビデオチャット装置を制御することによって、ビデオチャットのサービスを継続させるものである。
このことによって、通常のビデオチャット装置から予備のビデオチャット装置への交替をオペレータの判断に委ねることが可能であり、状況に応じた適切な交替が実行される。
発明を実施するための最良の形態
以下、この発明をより詳細に説明するために、この発明を実施するための最良の形態について、添付の図面に従って説明する。
実施の形態1.
第1図は、この発明の実施の形態1に係るビデオチャットサービス装置を示す。図において、20〜20Nはビデオホン(ユーザ端末装置)、21は網、30はビデオチャットサービスセンター(ビデオチャットサービス装置)、31は切替装置、32は通常使用されるビデオチャット装置、33はチャット制御装置(制御装置)、34は格納装置、35はビデオチャット制御部、42は予備のビデオチャット装置、43はバスを示す。
網21は、ビデオチャットすなわちテレビ会議が実現できるようにビデオ信号および音声信号の伝送が可能なローカルエリアネットワークまたはインターネットである。網21には、複数のビデオホン20〜20Nが常時接続しているか、またはユーザの要望に応じてリンクすることができる。
網21は無線網でもよいし有線網でもよい。ビデオホン20〜20Nは、単体でビデオホン機能を有する電話装置でもよいし、スピーカとマイクロホンとディスプレイとカメラと通信インタフェースを一体に有するかこれらに接続されているコンピュータでもよい。
また、網21には、ビデオチャットサービスセンター30の切替装置31が接続されている。ビデオチャットサービスセンター30は、切替装置31、ビデオチャット装置32、チャット制御装置33および予備のビデオチャット装置42を備える。ビデオチャットサービスセンター30において、切替装置31、ビデオチャット装置32および予備のビデオチャット装置42は、バス43またはその他の適切な接続手段を介してチャット制御装置33に接続されている。すなわち、これらはローカルエリアネットワークを構成する。
ビデオチャット装置32および予備のビデオチャット装置42の各々は、複数の部品を備えた多地点間通信制御装置(MCU)であって、装置全体として、ビデオホン20〜20Nに対してビデオチャットに必要なビデオ信号および音声信号の交換を行うことが可能である。
網21に接続された切替装置31は、ビデオチャット装置32および予備のビデオチャット装置42にも接続されている。切替装置31は、網21とビデオチャット装置32または予備のビデオチャット装置42の間の通信が可能なインタフェースを備える。通常時、切替装置31はビデオチャット装置32と網21との間のリンクを確立しており、複数のビデオホン20〜20Nとビデオチャット装置32の間の通信を媒介する。
但し、チャット制御装置33の指示に従って、切替装置31はビデオチャット装置32との通信を遮断し、その後、予備のビデオチャット装置42と網21との間のリンクを確立し、複数のビデオホン20〜20Nと予備のビデオチャット装置42の間の通信を媒介することも可能である。従って、切替装置31は、チャット制御装置33の指示に従って、本来のビデオチャット装置32から予備のビデオチャット装置42へ切り替えることが可能である。
チャット制御装置33は、中央処理装置としてのビデオチャット制御部35と格納装置34とを備える。
次に動作について説明する。チャット制御装置33は、チャットサービスに利用されているビデオチャット装置32または予備のビデオチャット装置42と信号を交換して、ビデオチャット装置が利用されるビデオチャットの進行状況を監視する。
具体的には、ビデオチャット装置32または予備のビデオチャット装置42は、ビデオホン20〜20Nから与えられる信号に基づいて、チャットすなわち会議の開始、会議の参加者のビデオホン20〜20Nの各々の接続、切断等を示すイベント通知信号を生成し、イベント通知信号をビデオチャット制御部35に送信する。また、新たな会議の計画がビデオホン20〜20Nのいずれかから通知された場合にも、ビデオチャット装置32または予備のビデオチャット装置42は、会議の開始時刻、予定時間長、参加者を示すイベント通知信号を生成し、これをビデオチャット制御部35に送信する。これらのイベント通知信号に応じて、ビデオチャット制御部35は格納装置34に格納された会議情報データベース(DB)を更新する。
第2図は、格納装置34に格納された会議情報DBのデータ構造を示す。第2図において、「会議ID」はこのチャット制御装置33が監視する会議を識別するための識別子である。ビデオチャット装置32または予備のビデオチャット装置42は、複数のビデオチャット(会議)サービスを同時に提供することが可能である。「会議ID」は、かかるビデオチャットサービスの一つを他から識別するために使われる。
「MCUID」は、監視される多地点間通信制御装置(MCU)、すなわちビデオチャット装置32または予備のビデオチャット装置42を示す識別子である。「開始時間」は、会議の開始の時刻を表す。「チャット時間」は、会議の予定時間長を表す。
「メンバ電話番号」は、会議の参加者のビデオホン20〜20Nを識別するための電話番号を表す。「ステータス」は、各会議の状況または各参加者の状況を表す。「メンバ電話番号」フィールドが空白の行の「ステータス」は各会議の状況を表し、「メンバ電話番号」フィールドが埋まっている行の「ステータス」は各参加者の状況を表す。会議の状況として、「ダウンロード」とは、後述するように、会議情報信号がビデオチャット装置32または予備のビデオチャット装置42に与えられている(ダウンロード済みである)が、まだ会議が行われていないことを示す。
このように会議情報DBは、現在の会議の状況を表し、新たなイベント通知信号が受信されるたびにビデオチャット制御部35によって更新される。
また、ビデオチャット制御部35は、ビデオチャット装置32または予備のビデオチャット装置42が利用されるビデオチャットサービスに必要な情報を会議情報DBから読み出してビデオチャット装置32または予備のビデオチャット装置42に与える機能も有する。具体的には、格納装置34に格納された会議情報DB中の会議の開始時間が近づくと、ビデオチャット制御部35は、その会議の会議ID、開始時間、予定時間長、参加者を示す会議情報信号をビデオチャット装置32に与えて(ダウンロードして)、予定されていたビデオチャットサービスの開始を円滑化する。
また、本来のビデオチャット装置32を予備のビデオチャット装置42に交替させるべき場合には、ビデオチャット制御部35は、現在または将来行う会議の会議ID、開始時間、予定時間長、参加者を示す会議情報信号を予備のビデオチャット装置42に与え(ダウンロードして)、これにより予備のビデオチャット装置42は円滑にビデオチャットサービスを継続したり、予定されていたビデオチャットサービスを開始したりすることができる。
さらに、ビデオチャット制御部35は、ビデオチャット装置32の異常の発生を判断するためにビデオチャット装置32の状態を監視する。具体的には、ビデオチャット装置32および/または切替装置31から供給される信号に基づいて、ビデオチャット制御部35はビデオチャット装置32に異常があったか否か判断する。
好ましくは、ビデオチャット装置32が有効に利用可能なリソースの量を示す信号をビデオチャット装置32および/または切替装置31は周期的にビデオチャット制御部35に供給する。チャット制御装置33は、有効に利用可能なリソースの量を監視し、そのリソースの量が閾値未満になると、チャット制御装置33はビデオチャット装置32の異常が発生したと判断する。有効に利用可能なリソースの量としては、例えば、ビデオチャット装置32が利用可能なメモリの記憶容量、ビデオチャット装置32が確立可能なコネクションの数がある。
但し、この発明を上記の特徴に限定する意図ではなく、次のような代替的な形態を用いることも可能である。例えば、ビデオチャット装置32は、ビデオチャット装置32自身の内部の特定の部品が故障すると、故障報知信号をビデオチャット制御部35に供給し、故障報知信号を受信するとビデオチャット装置32に異常が発生したと判断するようにしてもよい。あるいは、ビデオチャット制御部35が検査信号をビデオチャット装置32に周期的または必要時に送り、ビデオチャット装置32から検査信号への応答が返送されてこないときに、ビデオチャット制御部35は、ビデオチャット装置32に異常が発生したと判断してもよい。
ビデオチャット装置32の異常が発生したと判断したときに、ビデオチャット制御部35は、切替装置31に切替指示信号を送信する。切替指示信号に従って、切替装置31は、ビデオチャット装置32との通信を遮断し、その後、予備のビデオチャット装置42と網21との間のリンクを確立することによって、本来のビデオチャット装置32を予備のビデオチャット装置42に交替させる。これにより、ビデオチャット装置32にリンクしていたビデオホン20〜20Nを予備のビデオチャット装置42にリンクさせる。
さらに、ビデオチャット制御部35は、予備のビデオチャット装置42を制御することによって、ビデオチャットサービスを継続させる。具体的には、ビデオチャット制御部35は、現在または将来行う会議の会議ID、開始時間、予定時間長、参加者を示す会議情報信号を予備のビデオチャット装置42に与える。
第3図は、ビデオチャット制御部35がプログラムに従って実行する動作を示すフローチャートである。ステップST201で、ビデオチャット制御部35は、制御DBから会議スケジュール情報を取り出して、ステップST202で開始すべき会議があるか否か判断する。具体的には第2図の「開始時間」の列を読み出して、現在時刻から一定範囲にある「開始時間」があるか否か判断する。
開始すべき会議がある場合には、ステップST203で、ビデオチャット制御部35は、その会議の会議ID、開始時間、予定時間長、メンバ電話番号を示す会議情報信号をビデオチャット装置32に送信して、予定されていたビデオチャットサービスの開始を円滑化する。
会議情報信号を受信すると、ビデオチャット装置32は、会議が行えるように準備を行い、会議のメンバである複数のビデオホンから着信があると該当会議のビデオホンの映像・音声を合成し、接続されているメンバの画像・音声を配信する。
ステップST203の後、動作はステップST204に進む。またステップST202で開始すべき会議がない場合にも、動作はステップST204に進む。
ステップST204では、ビデオチャット制御部35は、ビデオチャット装置32からの新たなイベント通知信号を受信したか否かを判断する。上述の通り、ビデオチャット装置32は、ビデオホン20〜20Nから与えられる信号に基づいて、チャットすなわち会議の開始、会議の参加者のビデオホン20〜20Nの各々の接続、切断等を示すイベント通知信号を生成し、イベント通知信号をビデオチャット制御部35に送信する。また、新たな会議の計画がビデオホン20〜20Nのいずれかから通知された場合にも、ビデオチャット装置32は、会議の開始時刻等を示すイベント通知信号を生成し、これをビデオチャット制御部35に送信する。
新たなイベント通知信号を受信していれば、ステップST205で、イベント通知信号に応じて、ビデオチャット制御部35は格納装置34に格納された会議情報DBを更新する。
ステップST205の後、動作はステップST206に進む。またステップST204で新たなイベント通知信号を受信していないと判断された場合にも、動作はステップST206に進む。
ステップST206では、上述したいずれかの手法に従って、ビデオチャット装置32に異常が発生したか否か判断する。異常がなければ動作はステップST201に戻る。
一方、ビデオチャット装置32に異常が発生した場合、ステップST207で、ビデオチャット制御部35は、ビデオチャット装置32に送信した会議情報を予備のビデオチャット装置42に送信する。すなわち、現在ビデオチャット装置32にダウンロードされているが実施中でない会議に関する会議情報信号あるいは現在実施中の会議に関する会議情報を予備のビデオチャット装置42に送信する。
さらに、ステップST208で、ビデオチャット制御部35は切替装置31に切替指示信号を送信する。切替指示信号に従って、切替装置31は、ビデオチャット装置32との通信を遮断し、その後、予備のビデオチャット装置42と網21との間のリンクを確立する。
予備のビデオチャット装置42は、会議情報信号を受信することで会議の準備を完了しており、引き続きビデオチャットを継続することができる。ステップST208の後、動作はステップST201に戻る。
以上のように、この実施の形態1によれば、簡易な制御によって高い信頼性をもって、ビデオチャットサービスを途切れることなく継続することが可能である。また、ビデオチャット装置32および予備のビデオチャット装置42自体が、複数のビデオホン20〜20Nに対してビデオチャットに必要なビデオ信号および音声信号の交換を行って、ビデオチャットサービスを提供する機能を持つので、ビデオチャットサービスの潜在的な利用者が増加しても、構成要素の数の増加を最小限にすることができ、高い信頼性をもって途切れることなく継続できるビデオチャットサービスを提供することができる。
またこの実施の形態では、異常時にビデオチャット装置32を予備のビデオチャット装置42に交替させるので、従来の各構成要素群ずつに切替スイッチを設けるビデオチャットサービス装置に比べて、切替装置の数を格段に減少させることができる。従って、ビデオチャットサービス装置を低いコストで製造できる。
