Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound, by using a trivalent organic phosphorus compound or oxide thereof and a water-soluble amine having a specific range of a pKa as a base in reacting vinyl chloride with CO and hydrogen in the presence of an Rh compound, the base and water. CONSTITUTION:Vinyl chloride is reacted with CO and H2 in the presence of an Rh compound (e.g. rhodium oxide or hexadecacarbonyl hexarhodium), base and water to provide the titled substance. In the process, a trivalent organic phosphorus compound (e.g. trimethylphosphine or triethylphosphite) or oxide thereof (e.g. triethylphosphine oxide) and a water-soluble amine having a pKa of >10-<=11.5 (preferably mono-, di- or trialkylamine) are used as the base to afford the aimed substance in high yield at a low temperature under a low pressure. Since high activity can be maintained for a long period without accumulation of by-products, loss of Rh can be reduced without requiring frequent practice of regenerating operation.
