Abstract

PURPOSE:To satisfy accuracy, durability, reliability, cost and the like under the adverse conditions of a high temperature and a high humidity in the environment of an exhaust gas by calculating the flow velocity of the exhaust gas by the outputs of two electrochemical pump type sensors one of which is affected by the exhaust gas and the other of which is not affected thereby. CONSTITUTION:A first electrochemical pump type sensor 1 generates an output affected by the flow velocity of an exhaust gas and provides a clue to a flow velocity detection. Since a second electrochemical pump type sensor 2 generates an output that is not affected by the flow velocity of the exhaust gas, the sensor 2 acts as an air fuel ratio sensor and detects an excess air ratio lambda required for a flow velocity calculation. The flow velocity is calculated in an arithmetic and logic unit 4 on the basis of the outputs of the sensors 1 and 2.
