Abstract

PURPOSE:To specify the position of a fault point on a trunk line or a branch line where the fault point is positioned, by measuring the moment of a change in a DC voltage waveform appearing with a dielectric breakdown at the fault point simultaneously and at the same position in terms of one phase and the remaining phase in which a pulse-like voltage is applied. CONSTITUTION:It is assumed that a fault point is located at a position AF in a phase A of a branch line 102 branched off a trunk line 100 separated from two side systems with zone switches 1 and 2 and with the removal of a fault at the fault point AF, insulation at the fault point is self-recovered. A left terminal of the switch 2 is short-circuited between phases while being charged with a DC voltage slightly smaller than a dielectric strength at the fault point through the phase A at a right terminal of the switch 1 and a pulse-like voltage is applied thereto to break insulation at the fault point. The moment of a change in a DC voltage waveform appearing with this dielectric breakdown is measured simultaneously and at the same position in terms of the phase A and the remaining phase B or C. Thus, the position of the fault point AF on the trunk line 100 or the branch line 10 where the fault point AF is located can be specified from a difference in the moment thus measured.
