Abstract

CONSTITUTION:A color ink ribbon 1 comprises a plurality of color ink layers 3A, 3B, 3C provided on a base 2, the ink layers 3 being formed of transparent materials, and markers 4 provided on the base 2 without leaving any gap between each of the markers 4 and each of the ink layers 3. The coefficients of friction of the ink layers 3 and the markers 4 are set to be far higher than that of the base 2. When color printing is conducted, the markers 4 and the ink layers 3 having the coefficients of friction higher than that of the base 2 are alternately brought into contact with a paper 20, so that the color ink ribbon 1 is fed at a constantly fixed velocity without generating any relative velocity between the ribbon 1 and the paper 20. Each of the ink layers 3 does not hinder the passage of light which is to travel from a light emitter 23 to a light receiver 24, and a sensor 10 accurately discriminate the colors of the ink layers 3 by the markers 4. Accordingly, an operation of protruding the leading end of each of the ink layers 3 can be carried out accurately, and color printing with favorable quality can be performed.
