PURPOSE:To obtain a detackifier which is excellent in detackifying effect and useful in the process of preparing a powdered rubber, by mixing an emulsion of a polymer which will constitute a core with a monomer which will constitute a shell, polymerizing the mixture and then spray-drying the obtd. polymer. CONSTITUTION:An emulsion of a polymer A (e.g., ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) which will constitute a core is mixed with a monomer B (e.g., methyl methacrylate) which will constitute a shell, and the mixture is submitted to an emulsion polymn. in the presence of a radical polymn. initiator and an emulsifier if necessary. The obtd. polymer is then spray-dried to give a detackifier consisting of fine particles having a mean particle diameter of at most 50mu of a polymer having a core/shell structure consisting of a core 1 having a glass transition temp. (Tg) of at most -10 deg.C and a shell >= having a Tg of at least 80 deg.C in a wt. ratio of 50-95/50-5.
