Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance fixability of a toner by using a specified vinyl polymer as an essential component. CONSTITUTION:The polymer to be used as the essential component of the toner is a polymer of styrene or a copolymer of styrene and a vinyl monomer having a carboxyl group, such as methacrylic acid, and it has a number average molecular weight (Mn) of 1,000-5,000 and a weight average molecular weight (Mw) to Mn ratio Mn/Mw of 1-3. If Mn is <1,000, Tg lowers and deteriorates in blocking resistance, and if >5,000, fixability deteriorates, and if Mw/Mn is >3, fixability unfavorably deteriorates. Another high molecular weight polymer can be used together with said polymer, and moreover, a colorant, an electric charge controller, and the like can be mixed.
