CONSTITUTION:A light emitted from a light source 14 is focused on a recording medium 1 by using a converging means 10, first and second signals are detected from the light from the recording medium 1, the detected first and second detecting signals are added, and thereby, an incident light quantity is detected. The first and second detecting signals are subtracted by a subtracting means 22, the detection result of the incident light quantity is made into a referring voltage, and a subtracting signal from the subtracting means 22 is converted to the digital data by means of a converting gain corresponding to the referring voltage. Further, according to the converted digital data, the converging means 10 is driven. Thus, the converging means 10, the stable and correct control can be executed with the simple constitution.
