Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately store a traveling track with a small amount of data by storing a digitized map with a map number, a path number, and a characteristic feature point number, monitoring them during traveling, and storing last map number and feature point number when the monitored numbers are different from the last numbers. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 6 finds the current position during the traveling of a vehicle by an azimuth sensor 1, a distance sensor 2, and a GPS device 3. Then a map within a constant range including the current position 1 is read out of a 1st storage medium 9 and displayed on a display device 11. Further, traveling data are obtained from the map data during the traveling and stored in a 2nd storage medium 10 as mentioned below. Namely, the medium 9 is stored with the map number, path number indicating a road, and feature point number indicating the feature of an intersection, etc. Then the map number and path number in traveling are found and when they are different from the last numbers, the last map number and feature point number are stored on the medium 10. Consequently, the traveling track is accurately stored with a small amount of data.
