Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled high-molecular weight polymer having excellent heat resistance and molding processability, by adding a low-boiling hydrocarbon to a solution of a raw material diamine in a polar solvent, boiling and refluxing the solution to provide a specific moisture content, adding and reacting an acid chloride. CONSTITUTION:(a) An aromatic (thio)ether diamine (e.g. 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether) is dissolved in (B) a polar solvent (e.g. N,N-dimethylacetamide) and (C) a low-boiling hydrocarbon, such as 5-10C aliphatic hydrocarbon (e.g. n-pentane), in an amount of 10-400pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. components (B) is then added to carry out boiling and refluxing and reduce the moisture content to <=150ppm. (D) Terephthaloyl chloride or isophthaloyl chloride or both in an amount of 0.8-1mol. based on 1mol. component (A) are subsequently added and polymerized at a reaction temperature adjusted to preferably <=20 deg.C to afford the aimed polymer.
