CONSTITUTION:Outputs from sensors 2, 3 provided respectively on the left and right sides of the tip of a printing head 1 are inputted to a paper-detecting circuit 4, and are outputted to a printer-controlling part 5 according to the moving direction of the head 1. In the case of printing while moving the head 1 rightward, the moving direction of the head 1 is outputted from the printer- controlling part 5 to the paper-detecting circuit 4, which sends the output of the sensor 2 to the printer-controlling part 5. Similarly, in the case of printing by moving the head 1 leftward, the moving direction of the head 1 is outputted from the printer-controlling part 5 to the paper-detecting circuit 4, which sends the output of the sensor 3 to the printer-controlling part 5. Based on the output of the paper-detecting circuit 4, the printer-controlling part 5 decides as to whether printing data is to be outputted to the head 1. Printing is conducted in this manner.
