Abstract

PURPOSE:To smoothen descent of solidified shell and to make little of trimming quantity of the cast slab by continuously supplying consumable materials having hoop-state or wire-state through the side seal plate at both side of one pair of the rolls forming the prescribed gap to both end parts of molten metal to downward. CONSTITUTION:At the time of pouring the molten metal into the gap between rotated rolls 1a, 1b, the molten metal 4 is passed through the gap between the rolls 1a, 1b and descended while solidifying and made to solidified shell 3 and sent to downward and the fixed quantity of the molten metal 4 is held on the rolls 1a, 1b by the side seal 20 at both end parts. Then, the consumable material 5 is brought into contact with the molten metal 4 and also stuck to the solidified shell when the molten metal 4 becomes the solidified shell 3 and descended under embedding condition in the end part of cast slab 6. Therefore, both end parts of the solidified shell 3 are descended together with the consumable materials 5 without rubbing with the side seal plate 20. By this method, shifting resistance caused by the side seal plate 20 is reduced and also the rotating resistance of rolls is made to little.
