Abstract

CONSTITUTION:This laser array device has two different groove arrays 20, 21 for waveguide regulation on both sides of the flat active layer 5. The angle of inclination beta is so determined that one of far-field patterns becomes vertical to the end face. A laser array device using only the groove array 21 enables through selection of the angle of inclination alpha such control that one of two output beams is emitted vertically to the end face. In this case, the groove arrays 21, 22 incline reversely: namely, alpha and beta have different signs. This is because beams are so designed as to be intensified one by one only when both far-field patterns are superposed. This effect facilitates excitation of only beams vertical to the end face to provide single-ridge beams.
