Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent a sense of incongruity from being given to a viewer by successively putting a next picture on a preceding picture in switching from the preceding picture to the next picture to switch pictures as if pages of a book were turned over. CONSTITUTION: A speed controller 37 can select either of two modes 0 and 1 to change the display condition; and in the case of the mode 0, the variation of a display area per unit time is linearly changed so that the picture condition is changed at the same speed from the first to the last in a process of switching from the preceding picture to the next picture. In the case of the mode 1, the variation per unit time is changed like a curve so that the picture condition is changed slowly at the first and is gradually quickly changed. The variation of the display area is changed with time by the control of a picture control part 36 including this speed controller 37. Thus, the viewer who sees the picture feels as if he turns over pages of a book.
