Abstract
PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously carry out production of allyl alcohol, by the presence of allyl acetate in the column bottom of the first distillation column and using the above-mentioned allyl acetate as an azeotropic dehydrating agent in the third distillation column in hydrolyzing the allyl acetate in the liquid phase in the presence of an acetate ion exchange resin catalyst to afford the titled compound. CONSTITUTION:Allyl acetate is hydrolyzed in the presence of an acetate ion exchange resin catalyst in the liquid phase at 1.5-3.0mol. ratio of water to the allyl acetate in a reaction vessel 1. The resultant reaction product solution is then separated into an overhead fraction consisting of the allyl acetate, water and allyl alcohol and a bottom liquid consisting of aqueous acetic acid containing 0.5-5% allyl acetate and allyl alcohol in the first distillation column 2. The overhead fraction is then partially returned to the hydrolysis step and the bottom liquid is further fed to the second distillation column 3 to provide an overhead fraction consisting of allyl acetate, water and allyl alcohol, which is subsequently distilled in the third distillation column 4 using the allyl acetate as an azeotropic dehydrating agent to afford the allyl alcohol from the column bottom. On the other hand, the overhead fraction is circulated through the hydrolysis step.
