Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an aqueous binding agent capable of improving the mechanical strength through being included in fiber by making the binding agent include rod-like colloid, a trialkoxysilane, an acid and water in a specific content ratio. CONSTITUTION: This aqueous binding agent excellent in adhesion to fiber is prepared by including (A) rod-like colloid including aluminum, iron, silica or the like, having 50-1,000 mμ major axis, 5-100 mμ minor axis and 5-200 aspect ratio, (B) a trialkoxysilane of formula R<1> Si(OR<2> )3 (wherein, R<1> is a 1-8C organic group; R<2> is a 1-5C alkyl or a 1-4C acyl) (e.g. methyltrimethoxysilane or the like), (C) an acid (e.g. nitric acid, hydrochloric one, or formic acid, acetic one or the like) and (D) water in a content ratio (the component B/the component A) of 5-80, by adjusting the mixture so as to be emulsified and by aging it at 10-90 deg.C. The binding agent can improve tensile strength or the like and can impart excellent thermal resistance to treated fiber through being included in fiber.
