Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a highly water-absorbing spun yarn raised in water absorption ratio, and suitable as a water-absorbing material or swellable material by wrapping a highly waterabsorbing fiber bundle or fiber bundle containing highly water-absorbing fibers with a filament yarn. CONSTITUTION: This highly water-absorbing spun yarn is obtained by wrapping a fiber bundle 1 containing highly water-absorbing fibers with 2.5-20 wt.%, based on the final spun yarn, of wrapping filament yarn (e.g. of water-soluble fiber) pref. with a wrapping factor of 20-80. This spun yarn thus obtained is so designed as to reduce the interfiber force of constraint to effect raising its water absorption ratio to 50-100%, thereby affording high water absorbing effect when used as a water-absorbing material of thready, stringy or fabric shape.
