Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain rosin which is colorless and odorless and excels in thermal stability, by hydrogenating a purified disproportionated rosin. CONSTITUTION:Rosin (a) (e.g., gum rosin) is reacted by heating at 100-300 deg.C for 1-8hr in the presence of 0.01-3wt.%, based on component (a), a disproportiona tion catalyst (e.g., palladium carbon) (b) to obtain disproportionated rosin. The rosin is purified by, for example, distillation at 200-300 deg.C in a vacuum of 1-10mmHg, and then hydrogenated at 100-300 deg.C at an initial pressure of hydrogen of 50-200kg/cm<2> in the presence of 0.01-3wt.%, based on compo nent A, hydrogenation catalyst (B) (e.g., palladium carbon).
