Abstract

PURPOSE:To multiply a large amount of a hybrid of coconut palm, by cultivating an explant of an undifferentiated male flower tissue in a medium containing auxin, a polysaccharide produced by a bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudomonas and active carbon in a dark place until a seedling protrusion appears and then under a condition of light irradiation. CONSTITUTION:An ordinary species of coconut palm is cut down, an inflorescence is sterilely extracted and tissue is sliced to give an explant. 2,4- Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, gelan gum and active carbon are added to a base medium and the explant is cultivated in a dark place while repeating transplantation to a new medium. After a seedling protrusion is formed, the culture is carried out under a condition of light irradiation.
