Abstract
PURPOSE:To rapidly measure Cs radioactivity by adsorbing the radioactive Cs contained in liquid Na to an adsorption bed consisting of a getter agent and passing Na without contg. a radioactive material in the adsorption bed, then measuring the radioactivity of the cleaned adsorption bed. CONSTITUTION:The Na 14 which is the coolant lifted by means of a pump 9 for Na extraction is sent via a flow meter 8 to the adsorption bed 4 which is a getter agent-packed column. An extremely slight quantity of the radioactive Cs contained in the Na 14 which is the coolant is selectively adsorbed in the getter agent 5 in the process of passing said bed. The nonradioactive Na 2 for cleaning stored in a tank 1 for Na for cleaning is then dropped onto the adsorption bed 4 to flush away the radioactive materials except the radioactive Cs remaining in the adsorption bed 4. The nuclide of the Cs radioactivity in the adsorption bed 4 and the quantity thereof are thereafter measured by a radioactivity measuring instrument. The material of the getter agent 5 consists of graphite and the apparent density thereof is 1.7-2.1g/cm<3>. The operation for adsorbing the radioactive Cs in the Na is carried out at 150-250 deg.C.
