Abstract

PURPOSE:To securely detect whether or not a portable medium is mounted by constituting a portable medium processor so that the portable medium is loaded and unloaded freely. CONSTITUTION:While the portable medium 201 is unloaded from a main body device 200, a current detecting circuit 210 outputs a voltage signal corresponding to a fine exciting current to a comparator 211. The comparator 211 discriminates that the medium 201 is unloaded from the device 200 because the voltage signal is lower than a threshold value, and outputs, for example, an L-level discriminator signal. Then when the medium 201 is loaded on the device 200, a primary coil 212 and a secondary coil 202 are coupled electro-magnetically to supply electric power from the device 200 to the medium 201. Then the respective circuit parts of the medium 201 operate to supply a load current to the coil 202 and the current value of the coil 212 increases. Consequently, the circuit 210 outputs a voltage signal corresponding to the current value to the comparator 211. The comparator 211 discriminates that the medium 201 is loaded on the device 200 because the voltage signal is higher than the threshold value, and outputs, for example, an H-level discrimination signal.
