Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure a high sealing effect over a long period of time by making at least more than one piece of sub-plates top and bottom contact with a substrate in the form of holding this substrate in between, in a device made up of bending and forming a compensating part in the substrate provided with beads at a flat part at the more combustion chamber side than the bead part. CONSTITUTION:A metal gasket body 1 has a substrate 2 consisting of an elastic metal plate, and in this substrate 2, there are provided with combustion chamber holes 3, beads 4 to be installed in the peripheral edge, and a compensating part (pear-skin part) 5 to be installed in a peripheral edge of the combustion chamber hole at the more combustion chamber side than the beads 4. This compensating part 5 is installed to check amplitude in the substrate 2 due to engine vibration and to protect the beads 4 from fatigue failure. In this case, the compensating part 5 is formed by bending an edge part of a compensating plate (sub-plate) 7 so as to cover the combustion chamber hole edge of the substrate 4. In addition, another sub-plate 8 is set up on a surface at the opposite side to this compensating plate 7 of the substrate 4. With this constitution, any fretting due to a contact vibration between the beads 4 and the engine is prevented from occurring.
