Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce an Al alloy material having high-temp. strength by forming rapidly cooled and solidified flakes from a molten Al alloy contg. specific ratios of Fe, V, Mo, and Zr, then degassing the flakes by compressing and subjecting the flakes to extruding, hot pressing and forging. CONSTITUTION:The Al alloy which contains, by weight %, 4-15% Fe, 0.5-8% V, 0.5-8% Mo, and 0.3-8% Zr, and consists of the balance substantially Al is melted in a crucible 1. This molten Al alloy 2 is discharged from a nozzle 3 and a gas is ejected to this molten metal flow by an atomization device 4 to form a jet 6 which is brought into collision against a water-cooled rotating roll 8, by which the molten metal is rapidly cooled and solidified. The flakes 7 having about 1-10mm width, about 3-50mm length, and about 0.01-0.10mm thickness are thereby obtd. These flakes are degassed by cold compression at about 300-460 deg.C and the degassed flakes are extruded at about >=5 extrusion ratio and/or hot pressed and/or forged at about 300-460 deg.C. The Al alloy material which has the structure dispersed with intermetallic compds. of about 0.1-0.5mu average diameter over the entire surface and has the excellent high- temp. strength is thereby obtd.
