Abstract

PURPOSE:To heat the entire part of a billet to be hot rolled to a uniform temp. and to produce a hot rolled material having excellent quality by imposing particulate inorg. matter at the top ends of the billet in the longitudinal direction thereof at the time of heating the above-mentioned billet in a heating furnace. CONSTITUTION:Disintegrated scale or disintegrated inorg. matter 6 of alumina, zirconia, brickbat of refractory brick, etc., is imposed on the top end part of the billet 3 in the longitudinal direction thereof at the time of putting the billet 3 into the heating furnace 4 and heating the billet while moving the same on skids 5. The overheating in the end part of the billet by the reflected heat from the furnace wall is prevented by the presence of such inorg. matter 6. The entire part of the billet 3 is thus heated to the uniform temp. and the hot rolled material obtd. by hot rolling of such billet is free from a defective thickness, etc. The good-quality hot rolled material is thus obtd.
