Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce pig iron from iron ore with good thermal efficiency without damaging tuyeres by charging iron ore, carbonaceous material and slag forming material into the iron bath in a converter type smelting furnace, stirring the iron bath and molten slag by an inert gas and blowing oxygen and auxiliary raw material powder from a top blowing lance into the bath. CONSTITUTION:The sintered iron ore, the carbonaceous material and the slag forming material such as lime are charged into a molten slag layer 12 on the iron bath 11 remaining in the smelting furnace 10 of the converter type. The inert gas such as Ar or N2 is simultaneously blown from the tuyeres 15, 16 at 0.5-3Nm<3>/min and 0.3-2 Nm<3>/min ratios per ton of the molten iron as the stirring gas to stir the molten slag 12 and the iron bath 11. O2 24 is blown from a nozzle 21 of the top blowing lance 20 into the iron bath to reduce the sintered ore with the carbonaceous material as fuel and reducing agent. The gaseous CO formed by the decarburization reaction by the O2 of the iron bath 11 is secondarily burned by the O2 25 from the nozzle 22. The auxiliary raw materials such as powdery carbonaceous material and slag forming material are blown at need from the nozzle 23. Since only the inert gas is blown from the tuyeres 1, 16, the tuyeres are not damaged by the powder and the molten iron is produced from the iron ore with the good thermal efficiency by the heat generation of the secondary combustion of CO.
