PURPOSE:To enable the execution of monitoring by a method wherein a laser light is made to enter a gel for electrophoresis in parallel to a holding plate of the gel for electrophoresis and through incident paths at least two or more, and the fluorescence from a fluorescent substance labeled with marking a sample is detected by a two-dimensional detector. CONSTITUTION:The title apparatus is constituted of a gel holding plate 1, a buffer liquid 2, a plane gel 3 which forms an electrophoretic path, and a laser light source 4. A laser light 5 from the light source 4 is made to advance straight onto the plane of the gel 3 or to enter the same from the lateral side by switching a mirror A into a state of A or B. The light is applied to a DNA band 9 in an electrophoretic state successively at a prescribed position on the electrophoretic path and at a position other than a detecting position thereon, and the fluorescence from a sample is detected by a two-dimensional detector and displayed in a monitor through a computer, while it is subjected to data processing. Accordingly, monitoring can be executed while the separation and detection of the sample are conducted.
