Abstract

PURPOSE:To generate an emphatic pattern through increasing the line width of a character at high speed, by providing a plurality of pattern shifting circuits for shifting a given basic pattern to respectively specified directions by respectively specified amounts, and a superposing circuit for superposing the shifted patterns on each other. CONSTITUTION:Data read from a character font memory is supplied to shifting circuits 8-12 through a driver-receiver 7. In each of the shifting circuits, generation of an address in a writing address generating circuit 15 is conducted synchronously with a writing operation, and generation of an address in a reading address generating circuit 18 is conducted synchronously with a reading operation. The start of reading from an X-Y two-dimensional memory 17 is suspended until all of the shifting circuits 8-12 become capable of outputting the data, which data are simultaneously read in synchronism, and are subjected to a superposing logical operation in a lookup table (LUT) 13. A NOR operation mode is defined in the LUT 13, whereby emphatic reversed patterns of characters increased in line width are generated.
