Abstract

PURPOSE:To speed up image reception processing by inputting an MH code in 8-bit units in parallel and performing parallel decoding processing. CONSTITUTION:Two 8-bit parallel registers 10 and 11 receive the MH code and a barrel shifter 12 switches several bits of an MH code sequence inputted through the parallel registers 10 and 11 instantaneously according to the number of bits specified from outside and connects the code sequence. A 0-code deciding means 15 decides the number of successive 0 codes in the head of each code and a code length decision part 19 decides the code length of codes except the successive 0 codes at the head of each code. A decoded data kind deciding means 23 decides the kind of decoded path and a run-length information generating means 27 obtains run-length information according to the decoded codes. Thus, the part of modified Hoffman codes is inputted in parallel in 8-bit units and decoded in parallel. Thus the image reception processing is speeded up.
