Abstract

PURPOSE:To deposit hard-to-release scales on a tool and to prolong the service life of the tool by applying a substance generating oxygen by thermal decomposition before the contact of the tool with a material to be worked, and the carrying out hot plastic working. CONSTITUTION:The substance generating oxygen by thermal decomposition is supplied and applied on the surface of the tool for the hot plastic working of a seamless steel pipe before the contact of the tool with a material to be worked, and then hot plastic working is carried out. KMO4, NaNO3, CaO2, MnO2, NaClO3, etc., are used as the substance. When the substance is applied, the substance is previously applied on the tool surface and dried or the substance is added to a lubricant and applied. By this method, black-skin scales are formed by the oxygen generated from the substance when hot plastic working is carried out, and immediately firmly attached to the tool surface by the high pressure of the working. Accordingly, the scales are hardly released and act as a lubricant or a heat insulating material, and the service life of the tool is prolonged.
