Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the cost, size and thickness of the EL driving circuit by dividing Y electrodes into two parts on the panel side through a capacitor and connecting two X electrodes so as to draw out n/2 X electrodes. CONSTITUTION: Each two X electrodes 1 are connected so as to draw out n/2 X electrodes and Y electrodes 2 are divided into two parts on the panel side through the capacitor 4. The potential of YmB electrodes is separated from that of YmC electrodes through the capacitor 4. Since the number of driver ICs to be used for a dot matrix EL display panel is reduced to a half of a conventional number on the X electrode side and the number on the Y electrode side is not changed, the total number of driver ICs is reduced. Consequently an inexpensive, compact and slim type thin film EL element is obtained.
