Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent sinking of an adjuster by locating a hydraulic lash- adjusting type end pivot on the side of leading the direction of cam rotation. CONSTITUTION:Inlet cam shafts 101, 102 and exhaust cam shafts 103, 104 are located on the symmetrically opposed sides of the center of V-bank. Inlet and exhaust cam shafts of each bank are reversed by a couple of gears. Hydraulic lash-adjusting type end pivots 113-116 are located on the side of leading the direction of cam-rotation. Because points of action of each cam on swing arms 109-112 slide from the valve shaft side to the end pivots, a torque ratio in the beginning of opening the valve is larger on the valve shaft side. The pressure pressing against an adjuster thus becomes smaller, and sinking of the adjuster can prevented.
