Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in a filament, by making an exhaust tube communicating with an ionization chamber and a column connection tube movable relatively to prevent the inflow of a large amount of solvent component being bypassed to the ionization. CONSTITUTION:An ion source box 1 is provided between a gas chromatograph 2 and a mass spectrometer 3. A capillary column connection tube 13 and an discharge tube 11 are arranged in an ionization chamber 4 of the box 1 to be movable relatively. When a large amount of solvent component is introduced from a capillary column 15, the connection tube 13 is connected direct to the discharge tube 11 so that the solvent component can be discharged from the discharge tube 11 without passing through the ionization chamber 4. In the measurement, the connection tube 13 is separated from the discharge tube 11 and a sample component flows into the ionization chamber 4 to be transferred to the mass spectrometer 3. Thus, as both the tubes are connected direct to each other during the discharge of the large amount of solvent component, the large amount of solvent is kept from flowing into the ionization chamber thereby achieving a higher analysis accuracy with the prevention of deterioration in the filament and an electrode.
