Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an encoder apparatus having high resolving power, by arranging magnetoresistance effect elements at intervals divided so as to become finer than those of tooth-shaped projections. CONSTITUTION:A substrate for magnetoresistance effect elements 4 and a bias magnet 3 for generating a definite line of magnetic force are fixed and arranged at the position opposed to the outer peripheral surface formed by the tooth tip circle of the gear 1 made of a magnetic body having tooth forms 1A formed thereto at a predetermined pitch P. The substrate 2 is boned to the magnet 3, and a large number of the elements 4 and the conductors 5 connecting them in series are formed on the substrate 2. Therefore, a large number of the elements 4 can be placed in the magnetic flux of one magnet 3. By this constitution, when the gear 3 is rotated, magnetic flux is changed and the resistance values generated in the elements 4 are changed. Therefore, when (n) elements are arranged at the pitch P corresponding to the tooth forms A, (n) output changes are obtained with respect to one tooth of the gear 1 and the output change nZ is obtained with respect to the number (Z) of teeth by one revolution of the gear.
